Should I inoculate now or wait? (Will be away in aug)
    #23353829 - 06/17/16 07:12 AM (7 years, 8 months ago)

I just got my spores in the mail yesterday and want to inoculate today, but am hesitant.
I'll be out of state for the first week of august (sunday to sunday), so I feel like if I start them today, it could be timed perfectly and I can move the cakes to the fruiting chamber right before I leave. On the other hand, they could be slow growing, and I'd be rushed to move them.I also feel like I'd rather be away while the mycelium is still growing, rather than during 'fruiting', so it'd be better to wait to inoculate.

So, just in case you don't feel like counting the calendar, I'll be leaving in 6 weeks.

if youre only gone for one week and inoculating now i think you have absolutely nothing to worry about. if you were fruiting and then leaving however, thats a different story.

edit - im basing this off the fact that i have literally forgotten about jars after full colonization. ill put it in a box in my closet and have it sit for months. literally months! and then i just break up the grains, soak them, and move to bulk substrate lol. as long as you get the moisture back in there, my jars have always been fine that way. slower colonization maybe.
