If not, I highly recommend you giving one a try.
All of this is why I want an hood. Definitely feel like it would be faster, you wouldn't have to work like a snail from fear of stirring up too much air

bahah, i know.. lots of these B+ gre so irregular.. most are trying to straighten out now, though, and forming caps and all. so im happy for that. just hope they will be ok on their sides, since growth has already be going on for so long with them upright.
logically seems like it shouldn't be a problem.

What.. is this question?
Its probably anywhere from 1-50 sets of strains, fused or seperate. I would clone the big ones, before they grew much more, up near the cap. The test to see what's best.
I always heard to clone near the base... Edit: I saw your reply a lil late, the question remains though, why would you want to reduce the # of genetic strains while cloning, maybe it's the combo that made it great to begin with, so it makes more sense to clone from the base.
I dunno I'm just asking.

But it's possible that it's not the combo of many that made it good, instead it could be a few really strong ones carrying weaker genetics. It's not that cloning at the base is wrong, I have done it plenty myself. It's just no longer my preference.
Mycelium near the cap is more vigorous IME as well.

So you're saying clones taken from higher up on the stipe are more likely to represent the mushroom that was cloned, by having less genetics, whereas the base could have a little more diversity hanging around still?

Essentially yes. It's something I read a while back and can't remember where but, once I started to do that I noticed a lot less sectoring in my clones.

This is fantastic information. Thank you.
I posted this in GMM but not much amswers on it- does this look like a contam to you? Bear in mind that it appears to be fully colonized albeit by very whispy mycelium (also bear in mind edibles are not as rhizomorphic as cubes)

I envy the fact you've had enough projects to actually be able to make that conclusion. But then I also appreciate all the guidance I've been able to draw from you through TEKs or direct conversation.
Speaking of which, I cloned the one mushroom from my recent grow, and 2/3 plates I have seem to be going fine, which awesome. The other has aerial myc radiating out everywhere *except* the agar. It's so neat looking....
.... Oh, I was about to take pictures, which I did, but that one aerial dish I just mentioned has finally taken to the agar, and almost more than the others now.
Here's the "sphere" growth one that just changed...

And the other two plates...

none of it looks like oyster mycelium. oysters have much thicker mycelium. those grains barely look colonized. they are probably colonized by some kind of mold.
