I would like to try growing a dozen of them to make a hedge, but it gets pretty hot here, Wikipedia says:
Quote:
The plant usually grows in arid environments, at a temperature range of 5 to 35 °C (41 to 95 °F)
We get 60+ days of 100-110of (38-43 oc) degree weather I don't mind researching more on how to grow it but i'm hoping someone has experience with growing (or trying to grow) these in hot climates (Zone 9-10). Just want to know if I should try and track down cuttings/seeds or if it's a waste.

I grew it several times. It did well in south texas as long as you give it enough water. I grew it in the shade but was out on the sun several times. One problem i see with that is not wnough water. So water them plenty so they get established.

good to know, I can water it twice a day but they will be in full sun, in my front yard there is no fence/wall separating my yard from my neighbors and want to use a hedge as one. The reason I want Khat is because its an ethnobotanical and would go well with all my trichocereus.

I had a huge bush too. I accidentally ripped out by the roots. I was completely mad at my life and i went overboard and took it out on many plants. Alls well that ends well.

They have a large specimen in the Los Angeles Arboretum. USDA zone 9b with summers being 95-110 (maybe even a couple days of 115 F). It is in full sun all day every day pretty much and is easily a 10' tree. I can't comment on their watering schedule however.
