2nd grow with questions and pics

BRF. Pf-tek. These have been here now for four weeks. There seams to be an 1/8" of water setting in bottom of a few jars. I put them all upside down for a few days last week, got paranoid from a thread I read that told me not to flip cakes. So I flipped them upright except for the worse water logged jar. Temp is around 75'F. I put bandaids over holes after inoculation. I had a successful first grow so I just repeated every step so the bandaids stayed. I did loosen the bandaids just today and the jar lid popped, like it does when you open a warm soda bottle. I haven't seen much growth in a week so my question is simply "now what"? Do they look ready for fruiting chamber? Should I introduce the cakes to light so they start pinning?

Don't put bandaids over your gas exchange holes. And also wrong sized jars. You want half pints, preferably wide mouth. Those look like 1 pint jars and those rarely work well for pf cakes

They are half pint jars and they are the widest mouth jars I could find.

Well covering the gas exchange/inoculation holes never lets the dry verm barrier dry out. So the moisture from the verm probably is why there's some pooling. Usually the verm layer drys out which is good since a wet verm layer doesn't act as a filter and encourages contamination.

Well I did uncover last night but So by not uncovering holes for 33 days did I kill the mycelium. Since I flipped the cakes at one point without uncovering holes should I birth them for fear of contamination or is the mycelium astablished enough to fight off? Thanks for the replies by the way.

i think this guy covered it. i dont like pooling in my jars. ive had a problem with this a few times if i rushed the process of drying my grains. id actually dumped the liquid out in my SAB but i believe this didnt work as planned. it slowed growth significantly since i agitated the myc before it was ready to be agitated. one of those jars contam'd which happened to be my first ever contam. the rest lived but took longer to colonize. fruited just fine though.
the band-aid's will also inhibit GE correct? this cant be good for the myc either. while it wont necessarily kill it, i believe it WILL stunt growth.
good luck! learn through experience

well its always a waiting game lol.. but id like someone more experienced to chime in. however, if they are 100% colonized, then the next step is to dunk and fruit or just fruit em. i find that if you wait TOO long the myc begins to slow its growth. this will cause slower growth once fruited as well i believe. maybe outdated info though i dont know. im kinda old school at this point im starting to realize haha

My expirence is limited to just a successful grow and what you see here. So I have no idea if thy are 100%. Hopefully somebody with knowledge will shed some light and turn my frown upside down

the only reason im confused is because ive only ever worked with WBS. i also cant seem to tell how thick your verm layer is... if that layer on top is ALL verm, id say its about 100%. if not, then you have about another 10-20% to go i beieve.

the mycelium seams to be venturing towards the dry layer also, but isn't thick it's just string mycelium. I'm afraid the mycelium is dead and/or going to become contaminated.

How many days does one wait before dunk and roll when cakes aren't pinning and don't quite look 100% colonized?

as many days as it takes, they shouldn't be pinning at all if not 100% colonized.

Would it be a bad idea to take the BRF jars out of dark Cabenet and place in fruiting chamber(the type with holes everywhere) and place that in cooler basement. My thoughts are it would help with FAE which would evaporate some of the excess water setting in jars and also maybe help complete colonization eventually leading to pinning?

Jars can't get FAE they have lids on them. Complete darkness is never good. They should fully colonize before ever thinking of putting them in fruiting

Wow that one jar is wet! Are you trying to grow fungus or seaweed? Lol. I would take off the bandaids at least and loosen the lids, or even better, start over and try to go for field capacity. Some condensation on the inside of jars is normal, especially toward the end of colonization, but your jars are way too moist.

Also, if the brown stuff at the top of the jar is just vermiculite, those babies are colonized and ready for fruiting. There may be hope for you yet. Just roll the cakes in dry vermiculite and put them in the fc. Mist after a couple days if the verm still looks dry.
