Went camping last weekend. Going again on saturday. I have one of those fancy backpacks for overnight hikes. We hiked up a local canyon and just threw some hammocks up in the trees. Built a little fire. Not a person for miles. Really nice, although exhausting. I played around with a phone app that tracks and plots your hike over topology maps. Its pretty kewl

Just got back from camping and it was amazing! Being out in the woods, feeling that sun and just hanging out all day with some buddies. Nothing beats it! I did a shroom trip while they all took some acid during the afternoon. We went hiking and explored the area while tripping, it was great! I love how the whole day builds up in to the night and then we all just start drinking and getting a little crazy partying!
Saddest part is coming back in to town or the city. Enjoy your guy's weekend out there! It sure as hell always puts me in a better mood coming back to my responsibilities with a fresh clear mind!

Spent my spring backpacking around Zion, Yosemite, and Moab. Going on some other various Colorado backpacking trips this summer. Going to top it off with glacier national in August.
Favorite things about camping:
-Being so far away from people I don't hear a car for a week -turning the cell phone off -stars -no people -immersion in the natural world -having intense sex in tents -did I mention no people??
Sometimes I hike over to the back side of my property and set up my tent just to sleep outside on a nice night. It's really sad how quickly untainted natural zones are disappearing

Last year I dropped LSD while camping. Only one of my friends wanted to do it so I didn't do my usual day tripping as he wanted to fish and raft all day. So we dropped late and it started raining, hard. Then everyone pretty much went to sleep while i was full tripping in a dark tent in the rain. My friend who i dropped with drank like 10 beers and passed out I sat there bored in the dark. I have had great trips while camping but not the that last one.

Just me and my wife. There's about a 90% chance we'll get killed by a bear or get lost and die. I don't really have a weapon besides my knife and I can't fight off any big animals with that. I was thinking about getting bear mace, but it seems like that stuff would just make the bears angrier. If I was about to be attacked could I rub shit all over my body in an effort to gross the bear out and make him lose his appetite?

Brought the 45. We only have brown bears 'round here, and theyre a rare sighting. Most people will go their entire lives here without seeing a bear.

I'm going camping right before the 4th of July somewhere and have a whole bunch of acid I'll be taking. Problem is, I think they want to stay out there for like 3 or 4 days. There will be 0 bathrooms near us and that sounds to terrible. Still working stuff out.

Brown bears are essentially extinct in Cali, so I guess you don't need to worry about that...contrary to what the flag might lead you to believe. Save your money on the animal protection and start trying to reduce clutter in your pack for simplicity and weight.
Yosemite is a beautiful area to camp. Make sure to check the weather and if it's going to get chilly where you are, bring wool socks and long under wear and a beanie for the sleeping bag. If you miraculously get mauled and killed by an extinct grizzly's ghost, don't worry, you made it back to the food chain. Pretty sure that's the last step before Nirvana.

I camp all summer long out of the back of my truck digging at different mining claims in Oregon, California, and colorado. I came home this week from northern california because of the shitty weather but I'm headed back to the mine tomorrow night. I love this season. Living at home is ridiculously boring and a waste of a life.

I went to a festival last weekend and I stayed at a farm that had nothing to do with the festivals. Basically these people just let the festival go'ers come and camp there for the weekend. It was awesome
Absolutely no rules on a large piece of private property right next to a beautiful lake. We brought a 50lb tank, had a huge crew too. And since it was a farm they have free roaming farm animals you could go pet and they were really friendly. We pet goats, cows, llama's, sheep, whatever. They even had baby raccoons that we got to play with. They had like 10 dogs too. It was great. I love dogs
At like 10 am after a night of no sleep and lots of cocaine, fireball, and some xanax I was pretty much down for whatever and didn't wanna go to sleep. The farmer was about to go milk the goat and asked if I wanted to drink goats milk. I was like yeah sure! I thought he was gonna go grab a cup but instead he told me to just go down and he shot the milk in my mouth straight from the utter lol. That was weird. Then I drank milk from the cow too haha. Just down for anything at that point
The festival was really fun but camping out was really just as fun and no rules at all. We even had a silent disco there for at night. That place was so legit

my favorite thing of course is getting the hell away from people and society. your needs are basic (fire, food, water, maybe shelter).
The fresh clean air is next. Its easy to make difficult decisions when you have fresh oxygen to think clearly. And being around nothing man made. No droning hum of machines, nothing. Just the sounds and smells of the forest. I am jealous. I need to get out of here.

hmmm.....i dont know you, but I too have stared that same hobby. It is fun. I just go to the local rivers and creeks. havent done any mines yet but I came across a 4 ft wide trail that led to a creek that someone had been suction dredging. The creek has a different smell to it. smells like metal.

I don't mine gold, but obsidian, plume agate, quartz specimens, and aquamarine. I take what I mine and make from it to the gem shows in quartzsite and Tucson during the winter and camp there too. I actually spend more time camping than living at home. The creek probably smelled like iron.

Yeah man. With no rules. The farmers were ok with all of us doing drugs out in the open. Which is amazing because we signed no kind of waiver so it's a huge liability, but I guess farmer's don't think that way. It was chill though
Had huge bonfires after the shows each night with a 50lb tank off to the side (with a safe distance away lol). It was so much fun
Then out at the festival campgrounds theres cops with dogs walking around at all times. We did it right

Yeah they just walk around and roam around, sneak up on people. It's bullshit. Camp Bisco last year was planning on having the festival in NY where it has been for years but to get the permit the local community wanted 50 cops with dogs to be roaming around the campground at all times. Camp Bisco said fuck that and found a new location
From what you're saying it sounds like you go to smaller and more chill festivals, which is the way to go nowadays. Mainstream festivals suck. I went becase I liked phase 1 lineup and it wasn't too far away and all my friends were goin so why not? I'm not going back there though

Last time I really camped was some years ago out in the Tetons. Tripped off a light dose of mushrooms. Would've been heavier but my friend was too much of a puss. The stars were fucking unbelievable. It was like layers upon layers upon layers of stars. And every twig that we heard break that night we thought was a grizzly, lol. Or a pack of wolves. The coolest thing I remember from that night was shining the flashlight around. I really don't know how to explain it...it was just really amazing looking, the pitch darkness that surrounded the scope of light from the flashlight. And everything within that scope of light was just...so incredibly clear. They the clearest clear I've ever seen. And the darkness around it was simultaneously the blackest black that I've ever seen. Lol, idk.
Those trees out there too, man. They absolutely tower above you.

The first time I ever got drunk it was when we were all camping. I got completely shitfaced. I broke my friends mirror on his car by drunkenly leaning on it for balance. Then I got really sick and passed out in the woods lol
A couple hours later I got into the tent cuz I wasn't as sick and one of my friends was like "Gross you smell like puke". I go "Nah I'm fine" and pass out next to all my buddies. Good times
Then I had the shittiest hangover the next day. Couldn't enjoy camping at all. I think it rained too

A best friend of mine told me now for months we'd go out to the woods for a couple days camping through 4th of July. But I just found out everyone was planning on not telling me before I got there that the real plan was to stay a week, which honestly would piss me off more then anything and I'd probably hate my friends more. Not only did they not ask if had work on Monday but I was also going to buy food for people so now they're pissed but they can be pissed all they want . I'm not spending 8 days in the forest near 0 bathrooms and not much more then 6 days of water. All that sounds really fun but I try constantly to stay with people when they go places but I always have to go home after the 3rd or 4th night out usually due to some medical issue. I was quite mad that they were mad at my best friend of 5 years. He acted a complete fool when he knows I have medical issues in which I would've said no if he told me the truth. However now I get to spend 4th with my new female friend which is really all I wanted. They said I couldn't bring her first off which also mad me mad because I've never taken a female camping and I really wanted too. So it worked out I guess. I just have about 10 really strong hits of acid I was going to Suprise people with. Oh well I'm probably getting laid in my comfy bed while those fuckers dig shitholes

That campin trip was a total fail.
So, we left on Saturday afternoon, around 1:30pm. We drove about 80 miles to the campsite, 7 miles were really rough terrian with lots of pot holes and rocks. Ive done this road before and it sucks. But i did it.
We get there, no ones there. We were supposed to meet my GF's brother and all his step-family. No one was at the campsite. We were all like "WTF?". My Gfs freaking out like we were at the wrong campsite altogether. So we start a fire on a fire pit near the campsite near the last mini camp stove.
We ate our cooked food. I made some bomb chicken thighs and learned the secret of smoking. Cooked chicken thighs in a pot with BBQ sauce then held the chicken thighs over the smoking fire. It tasted SO good. Smoking meat FTW.
Anyway, after cooking and eating, it starting rain pretty hard. then later it stopped. We all descided to leave the camp site and try to contact her brother via text message in an area with cell phone reception.
We packed up our wet stuff, headed back down the mountain. As with our other trips, we have gathered rocks for our pond we made.
We stopped and loaded these rocks into the back of my car into a large tool box i fixed onto a reak rack i got for my SUV. We loaded this thing with basketball sized boulder rocks. Very heavy.
Well, we strapped up the tool box with heavy rocks, headed down the mountain. It was rough, hit the back of the carrier a couple times on the ground. I was afraid i might snap the rack off.
well, we make it down the 7 mile road from hell. We made it to the made road, i feel like my car is swaying Something felt wrong. I pulled over on the side of the road near a main road, and i check my tires, the left rear was flat. Fuck.
Doesnt surprize me since they were old tires and i had a patch on that tire.
So, i try to find my socket bar for the tire lug nutz. I see had a huge 1-1/2" socket on there i used for my wheel bearing i fixed a month ago. Fuck.
So my GF waves down the first car she sees. This nice foriegn SUV pulls over, and stops right in the middle of the main road to talk to us lol.
The guy pulls into the place we were, he was some guy from Germany and his Asian wife. They had a rental car.
He pulls out his crow bar from the rental and i try it, it fits! Success. We had to take out most the rocks from the carrier cause i needed access to the spare tire.
Mid way thru me lifing the car, the car slipped off the jack and almost hit my GF. Yikes. Then i chocked my wheel like i should have before. Should have done that
Then i lift it again, the German guy says with his cool accent "Hey, how about we trade crow bars and i could get on my way?" I say "sure, i can do that." i gave him my crow bar. He was a cool guy, very friendly and helpful. we got lucky.
We lifted the car, replaced the tire, then put some of the rocks back into the carrier. We left half of the rocks just to safe.
We drive home and reach some reception. My GF calls her brother to see what the hell happened with this camping trip. Turns out, we were at teh right campsite, they left early! All of them. He said it rained basically the whole time they camped, everyone was so over camping in the rain, they left. I wish they left a note at the campsite! Fuck. Apparently, my GF brother texted my GF and she got it AFTER we got down the mountain.
Some bullshit.
Also, the brother said he left at around 1pm. We left our home at that time! we just missed them on the road
Anyway, we drive 80 miles back home on the same flippin day, Saturday. We got home and visited my GFs brother who was drying all their stuff in the driveway and told everyone this story. We had some food left overs, then picked my GFs son who camped a couple days ago at the same spot, who was in town. Then we went home and grumbled about our shitty experience.
Heres the kicker. My GFs older son brought his teen GF and it was first time going camping and it was a total bust.
Such a stupid day.
But cooking on the campfire was nice, and the views at the campsite was amazing. So it was still pretty cool to travel
Lesson learned, dont abandon your people that you are expecting to come to the campsite! Thats just fucked.
Thats my story.

Your GF's son missed a killer opportunity to win over his girl. There will be more camping opportunities for the family, but maybe not the teen and his GF :o He was totally in for some action.
Im sorry bout the less than ideal circumstances brother, but these things happen when you go camping The brother leaving without telling y'all would kind of upset me, but rain and things are a part of the camping experience, you know? Go out next weekend!!

I'm trying to get into camping more. Currently working on purchasing equipment and scoping out national forests that I want to visit. I'm also trying to put together a good collection of camping gear, everything from backpack sized tents to fire starters, etc.
The hardest part is just finding the time. A lot of times, I just don't have 2-3 days to just leave and camp and do nothing. I guess if I got some kind of satellite internet connection, maybe I could take my work with me, but what the fuck is the point of that? Even if I have the time off, there's a lot of other personal stuff that I have in my life that I can't just abandon for 2-3 days.
As a result, I camp like once a year. But man, I would camp every month if I had the time.
