Heart palpitations after drinking?

Hi guys,
I've been experiencing heart palpitations lately. It's like a feeling that my heart skips a beat and then beats too fast for a second or two. It has happened to me in the past, but I didn't know what it was and it didn't happen very often at all.
Recently I noticed it happening more frequently, and it started with energy drinks, especially if I drank a red bull in the morning before I had eaten anything. Once after a red bull I had a bunch of them in a row and it freaked me out so I stopped drinking energy drinks. But now I notice that it happens the day after I drink a lot of alcohol.
Usually there isn't any pain or anything that comes with it, but I am a bit concerned as I'm quite healthy otherwise. I exercise pretty often and eat pretty healthy, although over the past year I did gain some weight and started smoking cigarettes due to job stress - I stopped all that now but I could still be experiencing the after effects. I probably will stop drinking also, or at least keep it to only a few drinks when I do drink.
A couple of things I'm wondering:
Have you guys experienced these sorts of palpitations, and did you do anything to fix it? Should I be worried and get myself checked out?
What about marijuana use? I've read recently that there may be heart risk factors associated with it. I haven't been smoking recently, but was considering still doing it from time to time, do you guys think it's a better idea not to just to be safe?
Also I should probably add that my grandpa on my mother's side died pretty young of a heart attack (around 46 I think) so I probably do have genetic risk factors as well, as my parents tell me I take after him quite a lot.
Any advice/experience is appreciated

It is fairly common to get heart palpitations especially after stimulants, alcohol or marijuana. That alone doesn't necessarily point to heart disease.
Drinking and marijuana use both increase risk for a young person to have a heart attack. 4-5 times more likely for marijuana.
That said, it's not something to sit around worrying and wondering about. it's something you go and get checked out by a doctor. It's much better to catch any cardiac problems before you have an emergency where you could die or do permanent damage. Just the family history of someone dying of heart attack at 46 is reason enough to get a full heart work up imo. That is NOT normal. Do you have insurance?

Stress and anxiety brought mine on and after the cause of the stress went away, over time so did the heart palpitations. They are quite annoying so you need to learn to relax, maybe meditate and go to the sauna or hot tub and limit your drinking to a couple with your good meal. Try to relax. Do some analysis on what it is about your job that is creating the stress and what you can do there to limit it. Sleep is important. Too much caffeine obviously not probably helping so keep that down but not eliminated I think some caffeine is good and if you are used to it don't cold turkey it. Drink water. Good salt might help you, like Himalayan pink, get the coarse and buy a good grinder. Use that on your food toss the white salt. Magnesium supplement might be in order as well.

I don't like how heart palps feel, I first got them in middle school. Then started to focus on them by the end of high school and got so and that I was inducing them and thought something was wrong. Getting them every day and shit. Was convinced I was dying, so I went to 2 cardiologists, had tests done, was told my heart was at 110% healthiness and that i need to stfu and chill out, which I did and all symptoms and palps went away. I still get a random one every now and then but i know it's nothing and they don't phase me at all.

I get them sometimes. I don't really know what causes them but I try to keep my weight from getting too high or going for extended periods of time just sitting or being motionless, try to spend atleast 2 hours a day doing active stuff, lifting weights, lunges, etc and then make sure to binge on fruit and veggies once or twice a week. I do these things out of fear that if I become inactive for too long, my body will load up with toxins and cause my heart or other organs to fail.

If the palpitations last for more than a few seconds and stay that way causing you to feel extremely tired or lethargic...you may have A-fib and you need to get it checked out. If your heart only does it for a second or two and stops...that is pretty normal.

So I've actually realized today that this is probably due to a sedentary lifestyle. I was traveling over the past few days and even though I did spend some time drinking, I didn't get any palpitations because I was walking around most of the time. Now I've returned home and today spent a lot of time at my computer and got the palpitations again.
Over the last couple of years I've had an office job and spent most of my day sitting. Before that I was teaching and spent most of my time standing/walking during my lessons and I had no palpitations during that time. In the past when they happened it was also because I've spent too much time sitting. And when you add drinking to that they happen more often.
So yeah I guess my lesson here is to get off my ass more

I'd get it checked out if I where you. I recently just had some life alternating health problems involving my heart 5 months ago out of nowhere. All at the ripe age of 31. I didn't think that shit would happen to me. Not trying to scare you. It's probably nothing to worry about, but better safe than sorry.

Yeah, I'll definitely get that done. Especially since there's a family history here.
Just wanted to share my revelation that lifestyle choices seem to be affecting it.
