Well water
    #23347623 - 06/15/16 02:41 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Hi guys, I have a well on my property. I also have a filter system for drinking/cooking. Is there any reason to use one over the other?

Thank you!

Should be fine.  Typically a lot of dissolved minerals etc.  Presume you have an assay with the ppm?

Whats with the warnings against distilled water? Is that a totally different subject?

I lived in a place where we only had well water and had no problem. It might even be cleaner than city water with all of the chemicals that are added to it.

I lived in the styx for a long time.  Usually you get a well sample taken and you get the components in ppm (parts per million)

Iron, calcium, magnesium, fluoride etc

Assay is just a chem term for determining content.

Not sure what, if anything, is detrimental

Different subject.  Distilled water has a leeching effect on the substrate and mycelium which can have negative consequences.

Now, when you say "works wonders" are you comparing this to tap water or spring water?  Someone around here was having awful issues with their well water having terrible bacteria in it.

That was me with iron reducing bacteria and sulfur bacteria in my well.  Not a problem with all wells, but somewhat common.

i guess i dont really have anything else to compare to honestly. ive always lived outside of towns more in the mountainous areas. its all well water out here and ive never had an issue is all i really meant.

ive yet to try it here at my new house so i suppose ill see soon whether or not my well is full of bacteria.. thats sort of disconcerting to hear -__-

It probably wouldn't be an issue unless it were pretty severe.  Most things you use water for, aside from misting, endure some kind of heat treatment process, be it sterilization, pasteurization, or otherwise.  I use tap for everything though, so I don't have much to compare with either.
