I have taken my wife looking as well, who also loves revolvers. Long barreled ones were too heavy for her, so right around 3.5-4.5 was her sweet spot. She also did not want too heavy of a caliber, though I think a .38 would be perfect for her, or 9mm. Next she wanted a more modern looking one, and she also wanted it to be Hello Kitty pink. Thats where things got difficult, but I am still planning on getting it for her .
So thats my recommendation:

I've shot one when I met up with someone off a forum, the same guy that brought the guns on the previous page I posted. He also brought a replica .22 StG 44 and a luger to round out the WWII era.

I own a gp100 .357 4" and can tell you it's not soo easy to conceal even in winter clothing. Revolvers are good because you just pull the trigger again instead of trying to clear a jam if shit goes south. I would suggest a .38 special snub nose police edition for how easy they're to carry and use in a hurry. You could fire that thing from your pocket and still hit your target it's so small and doesn't require the slide, shell ejection, and everything to move freely for it to function, hell, some don't even have a hammer exposed.

If her heart is set on a revolver just for the looks. Get a used one that was a service revolver.
For cheap and a great carry gun is Makarov9x18 Ammo is cheap and plentiful and the recoil verses 357 its minimal . Just for cost you can get a better used firearm then some brand new pink thing
Love eastern bloc pistols but they are functional CZ 52 7.62x25mm. Its a awesome round

That's the same model I have and I definitely agree on the concealability. Even in a coat you can see the big bastard

Easily concealable, enough stopping power and not that much recoil. I would recommend against a revolver as a first time handgun.
that's the dumbest looking revolver I've ever seen

Why wouldn't you recommend a revolver for a novice?
Also just because it's her first handgun doesn't mean she's a novice.
My son had a much easier time shooting revolvers than the semi-autos. It was his first time ever. Seemed fine to me. Very little recoil and as long as he knows where to keep his hands, I don't see any real danger.

I've seen (and taught) so many people to use revolvers it's ridiculous, while they are reliable and work well in -40F weather due to their mechanical construction, reloading is a PITA if you're not experienced, and someone in a life and death situation doesn't need to deal with that bullshit when being rapidly approached by someone intending to do them harm. As far as clearing a jam in semi-automatic pistol, it's easy as shit, not to mention the spare mag(s) you can carry.
While a revolver would be better than nothing, I would highly recommend against getting one -- go for an HK/glock, those fuckers will never fail you when you need them to, and misfires are easy to clear.

What, exactly is your experience in this field Prisoner? I'm certified by the US Military as an expert marksman in both pistol and rifle and have been shooting since you were jacking off to sears catalogues.

That's assuming it even is for defense. I'm leaning more towards just wanting something that's hers to have fun with. Like the first time I took my wife to the range, all of the sudden she wanted her own gun and I had to practically drag her to the range to begin with.

I recommend a bolt action rifle for a first timer .and a gun safety class.
For a hand gun it depends on the uses and the owner. Just my personal preference is a good semi auto with a good receivers . Depends on so many things. I could show you ladies how to handle a firearm find something you are comfortable with shop around research and buy used.
Fire several firearms and learn how to field strip it before you leave.

I agree with this reasoning as well for his gf. Sure you could get her the most reliable thing on the planet. Or get her a nice pink revolver or whatever she wants, and shell have fun plinking around at the range.

OK, I might recommend a revolver to someone trekking through colorado in the winter where normal temperatures freeze the lubrication used in semi-automatic handguns, aside from that... pretty much never in cases of self-defense.
