Mold?
    #23346301 - 06/15/16 08:05 AM (7 years, 7 months ago)

So my cakes finally started fruiting. I didn't dunk and roll before and only 3 of the cakes started pinning so I dunked the other six last night. It looks like a little blue green mold is forming in the pictures below. Thoughts?  Newbie here so this is my first grow.

That's not following the tek :nonono:

How to get started in bulk:
Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker
BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box
PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series
How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs)
What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain)
Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary)
Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful)
Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

But to answer your question, as far along as they are, I'd just get them away fr your grow space and finish em out if it is mold. Just looks like bruising to me.

Also, take the donut-looking ring off your kids so they can get better air flow

Edit: off your lids*....idc if you have donut rings on your kids.

Oh I think I misunderstood you. Thought you meant you already had fruited them without dunking and then decided to dunk them after they had been in fruiting conditions for a few days. I was like :lolwut:

But I get you now, you just didn't dunk the first batch. But yeah, it's hard for me to tell really but it looks more like bruising than anything else I've seen.

Just bruising, you'll get a better idea of what it looks like when you pick those mushies, the pick spots will bruise a bit.

When you dunk again for flush #2 they will most likely bruise from being handled.

I've only done the pf tek 1 time but I thought the exact same thing when I seen the discoloration.

Where are the holes in this chamber?  I see a couple really tiny ones that don't look 1/4 inch or 2 inches apart.

You should make some agar plates (pastywhyte's easy agar tek) and start some clones. You'll thank yourself.

That looks nice innocule, my first pf tek was a 2X2 grid of holes that size. I will never make another lol, drilling them was hell.

And I had my sitting on my weight bench, not elevated all nicely like you have. Lessons learned huh

Well I cracked the bottom drilling so have to get a new box anyway. Plus the 66 qt doesn't seem like it will have enough room for 18 jars I have colonizing.

Bigger tubs require more holes for fae, you be better off taking thise 18 jars and making 3-5 tubs with it.

Why make another sgfc? Get some agar, rice, and quart jars and start you some bulk

I already have another batch colonizing so I assume I have to use the original sgfc for that. Then start the agar way next?

Unfortunately my laptop is long gone and no longer have them bookmarked. However I did write down all the important ones I recommend and I'll list them for you in the order you should do them. Type each of these into the search and you'll find them.

PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Cultivation Video Series (the posters name starts with "munch" or something, but very helpful)
How EvilMushroom Prepared Grain Spawn (I use jars)
G2G in SAB
Elementary Coir Tek & How To Do Coir (2 different posts but I have them both written down for some reason and I also add 1/4c of gypsum to my coir)

And in case I/you get(s) a wild hair, I have this very helpful "doing da h/poo" written down.

Type those into the search function and learn.

I haven't mentioned how to build a monotub but do some research, they're easy af. I hear a metal pipe on the stove and use oven mitts to pick it up and burn the holes for my monotub.

To prepare the jars themselves, drill two different 1/4 inch holes into the lids and put a synthetic filter disc on top of the lid and under the ring so that when you screw the lid on all you see is the synthetic filter disc. You can use tyvek and silicone or whatever but I promise synthetic filter discs are worth the investment. Get you a 23 quart pesto pressure cooker for $80 on Amazon.

You got this man, good luck. Don't be afraid to check out other methods but I've had beautiful results this way.

If you're starting from spore print then get some sterile cotton swabs to scrape up some spores and rub it on the agar. If you get any questions along the way feel free to pm me, but make sure you do some research before you ask me anything.

Edit: if you're getting more mushrooms soon then that's plenty of time for you to order your agar if you hurry and get everything you need. Then you can take clones by cutting open the mushroom, flaming your scalpel, and then cutting a small piece of tissue from the inside of the stem and drop it on your agar. There's videos for that too, if you look for them you'll find them.

This is an agar plate I have going from a clone. This is its 2nd transfer just so I knew it was clean. Took that pic today

Try 160F for 12 hours, and then another 4-6 hours if any of them bend.  Heat's not a problem.

high as possible no pun intended

Heat will not hurt them at dehydrator's max temp. 160 is as high as mine goes

Sry for the confusion guys I meant the heat won't hurt, tombosley8 already said it.

In response to your cakes, the first pic looks bad but I can't tell of its a hardcore bruise or not. If it's black...toss it, no question.

As long as it's not black, all 3 pics just look like bruising
