Will these even grow?
    #23346223 - 06/15/16 07:32 AM (7 years, 8 months ago)

I recently did a trade and received two cuttings, I stated in the trade I needed them for grafting stock. If you look closely at the first one you can see some kind of plant seedling sprouting out of it

Those should root and grow just fine.

I'd get some cacti soil and let it dry.

And I'd cut a thin slice of the bottom of them and let them sit in front of a fan to dry for a few days.

Then once it's scabbed over you put it in the dry cacti soil, and it will root and begin growing.

So you don't think the spots of black and white mold/mildew will cause any problems? And you think they should be re cut and calloused?

That first one looks like it was lying on the ground and what you say is a seedling is actually roots. Why someone would send such a battered piece of plant on a trade is beyond me, but as the others have said, they will eventually grow/pup fine. Just be patient.

Thw last one is bridgesii and is very prone to that scarring. I dont know why that is. But the majority of the bridgesii cuttings ive cared for have succombed to that.

That's good news, I don't like to be difficult with trades, but from now on I'm going to ask for pics of what I will be recieving. I'll just make some fresh cuts and root them when they're ready, guess I won't be using them for what I needed them for anytime soon though, I have a special loph that the pereskiopsis died at ground level and needs a permanent stock yesterday.

not grafting stock material but you got some new genes and can grow out something beautiful.  it does seem rather rude sending those for a request for garfting stock, but life could be worse...

I honestly think he hadn't looked at them for a while before the trade was set up and didn't know they were that bad, plus has offered to send another. I have cut the ends off, have them in front of a fan. It may be a long while from now, but I will update this thread on how they are doing.
