I got a lot of san pedro, thin stalks not thick ones, that need their short spines taken off. How to do this without getting gored and bored?
I was thinking flaming the spines to take the sharp off, the pulling them out with pliers. Is there a better way?
Preferably today.

Pliers should work. I could pinch and twist the spine groups off my Bridgesii but they are longer spines. For the shorter ones I'd just cut a V wedge out including the spines.
If you're making a tea many just leave the spines on, they'll soften while cooking and then be strained away with the rest of the solids.

As flickabic said, i leave the spines on when making tea.
But, if u want the spines off for whatever reason, i would use a paring knife and carve them out like a u would an apple core from a slice of apple.

This!
When you cut, direct the pressure more lenghtwise, not downwards to the core. This allows you to cut with very little pressure only giving you more control to cut as little as possible.
