Do subs and galerinas taste the same?
    #23345980 - 06/15/16 04:19 AM (8 years, 9 days ago)

I tend to munch on subs straight, and I find they have a distinctive taste. Were I to ever munch on a galerina, a close look-a-like, would I know my error just by the taste? Obviously I'm not advocating you chew a poisonous mushroom to ID, but it would be useful to know.

I think it is wise to learn how to distinguish between species on the basis of all macroscopic differences.
In the case of Psilocybe vs. Galerina, flavour is not the most significant distinguishing factor.
You should do some research in the field. Try to find Galerina marginata to check its appearance
and texture, you'll find the two species to be quite different.

The best way to be sure you don't get anything unwanted past your lips, is to be thorough when picking
your mushrooms, and never to consume if you're uncertain.

What a silly question, nice username though, haha. Take Angerfish's advice and learn how to identify before eating anything.:peace:

:whathesaid:
Don't go just popping any mushroom in your mouth without taking a proper look when you know all too well that subs and galerina grow side by side occasionally.

I would go by appearance, not taste.

Also all the above.

Alrighty, you guys are more sensible than I! Guess I was more curious than anything. But definitely a positive ID by outward appearance should be the final word; accidentally eating a galerina shouldn't even be conceivable if you take the right precautions. I just don't get how anyone could trust another person's batch of a mushies, unless they're a grower.
