Dogs, cats and contamination?
    #2333744 - 02/14/04 08:13 AM (20 years, 7 days ago)

I have a dog and a cat and was wondering how much more careful I have to be and should i not allow my dog or cat into the room, also is oust a good product for air sterilization and how about lysol and IPA for sterilization of the room, also should I use bleach solution or clorox with bleach for cleaning and such, oust contains just triethylene glycol from what i can tell and i never new that it sterilzed anything i thought it only removed odors as its the same stuff as in ozium but it does suspend in the air so i was thinking because it does'nt contain anything from what i can tell would sterilize the air(maybe remove odors but not contams) that i could after spraying the oust, spray with a spray bottle a mist of IPA solution 91% or just some lysol as the oust will probally suspend the ethanol or IPA, also is there anything i can spray my dog and cat with to safely reduce thier contam levels as i would imagiene its high, i won't be allowing them in my room but should i put them in the bathroom while i innoculate my jars? i was thinking i'm going to take a shower before fanning the casings and wear clean fresh clothes but my animals are probally releasing tons of contams so do you think i'll need to spray them with maybe peroxide if its gonna do any good? is there anything else i can do, also should i spray the whole room down soaked in IPA and bleach?

just spray lysol all over your working area...spray in the air all above your area...let it settle then do your work quickly...make sure to wash your arms with anti bacterial soap at least half way up your arm(like a doctor)

I was planning on using germ-x although the germ-x does have moisterizers in it and vitamin e so would that be a concern for handleing the cakes for crumbling or should i do it in a plastic bag, if i should are regular plastic sandwich bags ok, is there a way to make sure there sterile and will not contam the cakes while crumbling.

My dog is a small cocker spaniel that is dirty as fuck so looks like its bath time for my dog and i'll do it every other day i guess, should i invest in a air filter for the room, if so which ones work the best?

You think i should use the oust because it says it reduces 99.9% of germs in the air while lysol only kills that many on surfaces only.

Fuck, we brush our cats frequently and they still shed a considerable amount. I have even found feline hair in the terrarium. They are smart, but not smart enough to open the fruiting chamber. Never had contams in there, but I would say that on average, a dog is a bit dirtier than a cat.

Spray your oust or whatever and try to cut down on any drafts - that will help considerably.

I used to have a ferret that ran around the room while I was innoculating jars of grain, should be no problem. If you do happen to have contam issues then put them in the other room while you work.
