is calcium rich bore water having an effect on my spore syringes?
    #23345232 - 06/14/16 09:48 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

I realized my latest jars were made with hour old syringes hence the germination problems, at the same time the spores in the syringes are really going at it, growing allot. I made a bunch of creeper jars with old syringe, got growth in days, one pf classic jar has just showed growth, its now almost 2 weeks, just confirmed it was mycelium. the rest, nothing. I think it might be faster to re-inoculate as i read sometimes not hydrating the spores properly can lead to jars never germinating.

Anyway, i got to thinking, is it possible my calcium rich bore water (enough to leave marks in the shower if not wiped EVERY TIME), had anything to do with the relatively large amount of growth in the syringes? last time i saw anything like this i used sugar water and didnt notice anything until 3-4 weeks had passed.

Should i keep using bore water or go with distilled or rainwater instead?

While the water when cold almost tastes like fat reduced lactose free milk (which is basically calcium water), its not salty or anything, perfectly normal water for consumption and such, it just has heaps of calcium in it compared to other, worse bore water, which is sometimes salty or otherwise heavy. This one is very palatable and leaves allot of chalky-scale behind.
