Favorite OST's? (Orignal SoundTracks)
    #23343922 - 06/14/16 03:58 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

I finally found both the OST's for Space Dandy earlier which is the anime the gif in my sig is from, I am super excited as they are some diverse funky albums. They have some really ridiculous whimsical stuff that goes great with the show as well as some more serious funk and fusion stuff which is pretty damn rockin honestly:

Connect (コネクト) - Space Dandy OST

Just listen to that funky tune, there are only another 3-5 similiar tracks out of the two albums but they are great :stoned:

Anyways what are your favorite OST's?

Here are a few more that come to mind:

Cowboy Bebop
Darker Than Black
Big O
FLCL

The first three have really great jazzy soundtracks and FLCL has a great rock/ blues theme.

FLCL all day, Bran-new Lovesong and Little Buster were always my favorite.

It's not exactly the best song to just listen to for fun but On the precipice of defeat in bleach I always loved, makes me feel some type of way everytime I hear it , naruto suprisingly has a lot of good OST's as well

Lol, I saw the thread, looked at who authored it, & knew I was gonna be reading about anime.  You love anime.

Anyway, I love original sound tracks.  Kronos Quarter did a great job for Requiem for a Dream, Vangelis killed it on the Blade Runner OST.  Giorgio Moroder has made amazing music for more movies than I can even remember offhand (Flashdance, Top Gun, Midnight Express, Cat People, etc.).  John Carpenter is a boss with his scores for Halloween, Escape From NY, Assault on Precinct 13, etc.  The guy who wrote the theme for Terminator is great.  A ton of other movies.  Movie music is fantastic.

Recently I was very impressed by Disasterpeace's score for It Follows.  The OST was the best part of the movie.

Here's the main theme from It Follows.  Genius.

I just love over the top and whimsical shows which anime tend to be, not to mention some of the best sci fi and fantasy I have seen are random anime. Their are some amazing OST's for them too, I have found a lot of great asian jazz and rock musicians through anime soundtracks that I never would have heard otherwise.

That is a solid list  Have you seen the Lords Of Synth Adult Swim special? It makes fun of Moroder and two others really well:

I figured you would dig it since your a fan of Moroders stuff, your very welcome

It's the best adult swim special I have seen yet and they have done some ridiculous ones

Here is a really moving tune from Darker Than Black:

Darker Than Black OST- Kuro

I really love this soundtrack in particular becouse it has some great upbeat and darker stuff like this that suite the various story angles throughout the show.

Here is another great song from the same show that has a much more upbeat jazzy feel:

Darker Than Black Track 1 - Go Dark

Oh shit, I haven't seen Eyes Wide Shut since it first came out, but that was very cool.  Kubrick movies have great scores, especially Clockwork Orange.  A vinyl copy of The Shining soundtrack is worth good money because they're exceedingly rare.  For the non-original stuff, Kubrick had assumed it was public domain; it wasn't.  So the records hit the shelves in 1981 and were pulled off a week later when the owners of the copyrighted material threatened lawsuits.  It's a shame because the original score for The Shining is remarkable.

"TiDUS - Delancey" is the OST for Eddie Huang's Fresh Off The Boat, it's a pretty unique song IMO.

Honestly, anything by Nobuo Uematsu. The composer for the Final Fantasy series up through FF10, I believe.

but also, Cowboy Bebop, Cowboy Bebop, and Cowboy Bebop... oh man, Yoko Kano is a sheer dynamo. Amazing composer. Just look up the band that played all her music for cowboy bebop: The Seatbelts.

I have only listened to the Seatbelts Bebop stuff but I loved it all, really smooth groovy group they are

If you like the Cowboy Bebop OST have you checked out Darker Than Blacks or Big O's? They both have some similiar smooth jazzy stuff that is great.

Also Final Fantasy definitely has some great soundtracks as do a lot of classic rpg's and fantasy games.

Here is a really beautiful mellow song from Big O:

Brick Ballades - Houston Street

And here is a much more intense action/ drama jam:

Big O - OST - Freedom

:jamming:
