like i said.. im a very anal perfectionist when it comes to everything i do :/
is it practical? hell no. is it necessary? hell no. do i do it every time? yes.
why? because its worked for me so far.
simple as that really. i dont advocate ANYONE else to PC empty jars. unless of course you want to use a jar that has previously contained a contamination. of course in that case i would toss the jar and get it as far away from my house as humanly possible. but thats just me :p

Contamination jars. Go outside dump out. Get garden hose spray out jar. Bring in wash like you would wash the dishes.
If you're really anal you can PC the jar before dumping it outside

I don't.... what... ummm...
I mean, I could do a little dance on one foot every time because that's what happened every time I had success the first few times but as soon as I figured out the dancing on one foot wasn't what was making it work, I would refine my technique to include only the things that were actually making a difference, and with a focus on excluding steps that cost money but do nothing.
You're PCing jars, getting them sterile, then dropping in dirty grains and letting open air hit the jar, making them no longer sterile. It's like "There's gonna be rain and flooding tomorrow, better go spend 20 bucks on a car wash" It is incomprehensible to me.
The only thing that would make that stance make sense is if mental illness prevents you from making logical changes in response to new information, in which case I guess I feel for you..

If I was in your situation I'd probably have quit long ago. I find many steps tedious, that's why I aim to make it easier with less work. My favorite part is just watching them grow just right. If I had so much other bs happening like that, I'd have lost interest long ago. I'm lazy af lol. I really don't do anything I feel isn't needed at this point.

you dont even know how much i envy that. ive come to understand and work with my OCD in order to function properly day to day. but by no means is it easy. and i have no room to be lazy or else things start getting 'funky' (depression, mood swings, etc.). in some ways, i believe the reason i love this hobby so much is because it allows me to focus my OCD in a productive manner. in the same way my job does.
im an IT coder by trade, and you should see the way i write code.. its insane the way my OCD forces me to do it a certain way every time. BUT my code LOOKS beautiful in the end lol.

So your saying you HAVE to PC all your empty jars, no matter what? Do what you want man but it really is a great big waste of time and energy to have to PC jars that don't need it. Any way you could possibly break out of this habit? It'd probably save you time and even money in the long run.

ill admit, i HAVE simply washed them by hand, and then in the dishwasher, and then alcohol wiped them down.. SIMPLY i say :p lol. but this process sucks too.
i dont know guys. i have a thing for bad bacterias and molds. while im fully aware the process is completely unnecessary. i feel this extremely strong impulse to follow the procedures ive set in place. and if dont, i end up stressing myself CONSTANTLY that ive done something wrong.
i know its dumb ): and yes its wasted me quite a lot of time and money im sure. i literally bought extra PC's just so i could do this process more efficiently.
i am working towards not doing this anymore. but i have been for quite a long time.. granted i only PC them for 15-20 minutes at 15PSI, and it doesnt take all that long to do them all. i usually get other things done while i PC them so its never felt like a crazy ridiculous process. though its exactly that in the end -__-
