I've heard of people making virtual machines with a screensaver with all different pics of cows being butchered and the odd sick porn pic thrown in. Then just let them connect and enjoy the show whilst they are trying to explain why the machine is infected and you need to pay money.

Maybe you need a landline for them to get access to your number. I really don't know.
I get these calls at least once a week, often when I'm busy doing something, their a pain in the arse.
Whenever I hear an Indian accent giving me the opening line of the spiel I just say "no thanks" and hang up. I came close to hanging up on my doctor once, who was phoning me to give me my blood test result, she has a very mild Indian accent.

I love to point out to them that what they are doing is a crime and that I'm recording the conversation for the police.
That usually gets them to hang up fast.
The callcenter sounds in the background probably are a recording also. Scammers fake ANYTHING to give their story credibility. Sometimes even an Indian accent.

Seems odd that Scammers would fake an Indian accent.
I believe there has been some research done to show that people in the UK find a scottish highlander's lilting accent, to be the most pleasing and trustworthy, faking that could be an advantage to the scammer.
Faking a Glaswegian accent, on the other hand, would probably be counterproductive. lol.
I'm sure there are regional accents in all countries that people find more pleasing on the ear.

That sucks. I was surfing sketchy porn sites on acid and got the virus that seizes your pc and takes your picture with your webcam and claims it is the RCMP (FBI in the USA). It says you are being investigated for illegal porn have to send bitcoins to have your "file closed", which makes no sense even on acid, yeah just send the police bitcoins. Anyway I got rid of it doing system restore point. But I spent hours trying to figure out what to do as I am no computer expert, was tripping balls too, that was a shit trip. Couple of years ago now, the ransomeware these days is impossible to remove I understand. I don't hit unknown porn sites anymore.
I haven't had the call from India lately, my landline is unlisted though. It actually makes sense they would target landlines as old people have them, and old people are their number one target.

Or just make things super awkward and make some shit up about having a home based sex toy operation or something and try to sell them some random stuff.
Just come up with really random things that will make them uncomfortable, maybe tell them you are a nazi or KKK member and try to recruit them.
Something scientology related could also be gold; "I don't seem to be having any issues with my computer but while I have you on the phone have you accepted L Ron Hubbord as your lord and savior? Perhaps I could schedule you for some auditing and enlighten you about the evil alien dictator Xenu."
I used to ask people in prank calls all the time "have you accepted the good lord L ron hubbard into your life as your personal lord and savior?" I just love replacing the name in that statement. We went camping one.time when i was frying and bumped into a guy named mac, i kept telling.my friends how that day i became a born again beleiver and.accepted the good lord mac into my life as my personal lord and savior. Idk it's just a funny sounding phrase

I posted an ad on Craigslist a few weeks ago and this guy texted me and asked me to accept his call from Washington DC. I was immediately hit with a prompt to press "5-7-0" or whatever. Hung up right then and texted guy back and asked him wtf kind of scam he was up to, and his response was more or less "fuck you mother fucker".

I consider windows scam calls a golden opportunity to go Tourettes Guy or otherwise ballistic. I used to be shy on the telephone but, I'm losing my excessive shyness across the board.

I learnt not to do that after I pissed off some random cold caller, trying to sell me some shite or other, not a scammer. He took offence and launched some weird vendetta agaist me.
I was inundated with calls morning, noon and frigging night, for quite some time. I guess it only stopped when the shithead messed with someone, more knowledgeable with 'phone stuff' than I, who reported the prick and got the fucker ousted.

Damn, thats awful.
Sounds like the telemarker from Hell. But a scam artist instead.
Thats why i screen all my calls via answering machine. Safer that way. Caller ID for the Win.

I got a great idea for the windows scam.
When u answer, have your computer ready with a text-to-voive program and your PC speakers right near the mic of the phone.
Then when the Indian scammer starts talking, type in the text-to-speech program stuff like "Incoming message. Now decoding...." and "Warning: Bullshit detected. Scanning for incoming bullshit" or "Analyze voice speech patterns for emotional affect. Emotion detected: Overwhelming fear." or "A human virus has infected your incoming telephone communication. Please stand by...".
Basically creepy computer A.I. stuff

some asshat that cant make a proper living calls you and basically says you have maleware on your computer and walks you through to letting them remote into your computer.
and while they are there they do whatever the fuck they want.
come on man, dont get your panties in a twist, let the guy walk you through all that, I mean dont do anything but let him tell you all the steps, play dumb, ask him if he has what he needs yet, then say you must have messed up somewhere, then let him walk you through the process again and make sure he doesnt hang up on you, he really needs to spend as much time on the phone as possible, it's how he makes his living

just keep asking why after every step to ensure a lengthy conversation... and just wear him out like a lawyer.
not a bad suggestion...
