Dunking Question
    #2334095 - 02/14/04 01:47 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Anyways i have 3 jars that acheived 100% colonization today and was wondering if i should start dunking them now or should i wait a little bit for the mycelium to colonize further.

Also is the roll necessary, the roll in vermiculite i mean. does it make that much of a diffrence? Thanks guys

100% colonization is as colonized as they are gonna get, man. Dunk.

I don't have a direct comparison with rolled vs. non-rolled cakes. The wet verm provides and retains moisture, just another method to filter as mush H20 to the mushies.

Hoe long have your jars been colonizing?

Really there is no reason for you to dunk before your first flush. They probly have all they moisture they will need....but whatever you want to do you will do. Ive been talking to some serious growers in the IRC cultivation channel and they find it odd that people are now dunking before there first flush.

Penalties against drug use should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against the possession of marijuana and mushrooms in private for personal use.

I find it odd not to dunk before birthing.

The mycelium uses some of the moisture from the substrate during colonization. Replacing that isn't a bad thing.

To each their own, and I take my time so another 12-24 hours before birthing isn't a big deal.

I always dunk before birthing simply because it totally eliminates the possibility of the cakes underproducing due to lack of moisture. Doesn't matter if your cakes have dried out almost completely or have lost barely any moisture what-so-ever, dunking ensures complete saturation and therefore maximum yeild.

I also find that rolling does help yeild as well by providing even more moisture content and a helluva lot more surface area. When I compare my rolled cakes to my non-rolled cakes, it would seem that more of the surface of the cake has mushrooms growing on it and usually in large clusters. My non-rolled cakes usually only sprout single mushrooms that are scattered all over the surface. I'm not sure if it actually does increase yeild but I'm convinced that it makes better usage of the cake. I would recommend dunking AND rolling before birth and in between flushes to everyone and anyone. I even think it should be an integral part of any cake teks.

Anyways, hope this helps and good luck with your cakes!
