An English question for you guys-part 2
    #23340897 - 06/13/16 08:05 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Hello. I have a question about this phrase, "someone who treats me right". Is this phrase used strictly in a romantic sense only? Like, if I want to describe my relationship to my mother while growing up, am I allowed to say "my mother has always treated me right"?

Context: Girl A and B are talking about guys. Girl A asked girl B, "what kind of guys are you looking for?" And girl B responds, "I want someone who treats me right".

Thanks.

That phrase is poorly constructed, but it could work in either scenario.

So how should it have been constructed?  What would you have said in its place?

Its a general expression meaning "someone who treats me well". Part romantic, part real world.

A figure of speech like "Im looking for Mr. Right" and "Its not you, its me".

It works as is, what I would say matters not. Just being contentious

So I can actually say, "my mother has always treated me right" and it won't sound funny?

Ah I see.  I just thought I'd ask.  You sounded like you were really sure about your version being superior.

depends on the context. If the subject is "family", sure u can say that.

But if you bring it up randomly, it might sound a little odd.
