ok so I wanted to test out what starter has been workin with with rez and non rez millet casings so heres my go..strain is EQ and substrate is 2qts of white millet each
both casings were done at the same time and use a pure verm bottom at FC and cased with 75/25 coir/verm
Rez is on the Right
after 3 days of being incubated
bottom is rez
couple days later in the fruiting chamber rez is on the left
approx 5 days later pins start
nother couple of days pass but nothing much seems to happening on the non rez....and I also noticed the casing is shrinking and pulling away from the sides.....not looking good for it
more time goes by and still nothing seems to be happening with the non rez so I decide to take off the foil I had wrapped around the clear plastic trays and take a look for contams....sure enough green all along the sides on the non rez....I figure its cause the casing shrunk...nothing but pure white on the rez
but all is not perfect with the rez either....seems that mutation is occuring on good # of the pins...I knew I should have covered the chamber when working with lysol near it!
my sad attempt at "colour enhancement"
getting bigger!
couple pics I took today
updates to come...

I've never tried the rez before but after seeing starter's flushes, it might be a fun thing to try. Personally, I've never had any trouble getting big flushes without the rez though.

Dam i would love to see a head to head. are you going to give this test another try? I would say its a better idea next round to do more then once casing, using smaller trays.

not sure at this point but probably not....I'm really impressed with rez at this point the non rez dried out way too fast hence the shrinking

it really depends on how you water your casing prior to birthing it though. I'm almost positive one could get equal flushes if you apply the correct amount of water before birthing. The reservoir in a way allows you to water less from above and lets the mycelium use what it needs. Both seem to be equally effective options, different ways to achieve the same result.

well that is the good thing about it. Your water content is much better distributed and you wont have to worry about watering too much on top, perhaps drowning your pins.
