Discreet disposal of spent substrate in large quantities 1

This is a discreet way to dispose of spent substrate in large quantities for people that live in the city, don't have a yard to put them in, or can't use a dumpster for obvious reasons. If you're like me, driving around with 60+ lbs of colonized psychedelic mushroom cakes to dump in the woods feels kinda sketchy, so I found a work around that has minimized the risk of disposal for me entirely and thought it might help others. **Do not do this if you're on a septic system***
Have you ever filled up a bucket with water and poured it in the toilet fast enough to make it flush? Basically this is what we're doing, but we'll be suspending our spent substrate in water or emulsifying it to making it liquid and pour-able. If you're not familiar with this please take 30 seconds to watch the video
Start by getting comfortable with flushing the toilet with a bucket of water
Here we have a tub on it's 4th flush, time to give it the last flush
Now it's time to prep the spent substrate. I use an electric hand mixer to break it up in a tote, it goes fast and is very easy, you can easily do around 35 lbs in 2-3 minutes.
Now add water, I ended up adding around 4-5 gallons of water to an 18 gallon tote with substrate 4 inches thick so it's around a 1:1 ratio.
Mix it up for a couple seconds once again!
After you have it mixed well it should look very soupy now pour that in the toilet at a decent speed just like you did with the bucket of water, don't be scared!

That's it! Hope someone finds this useful!

sad that you have to dispose of substrates like that..
the vermiculite and coir and horse manure do wonders in the garden
looks like you've got it figured out

That is too bad you have to do that. If you break the sub up it just looks like dirt and grains.
All sorts of dirty secrets go down the toilet. If you watch the "VICE" episode about "shit" they talk about how they find drug bags and fetuses and pets (kittens and puppies still alive) in the cleaning facility where they pull out the larger waste before chemical / filtering treatment.
Hope you find a better solution soon bud. The city sucks for growing especially if you live in an appartment.

The government here is spending millions to sample and analyze the sewage to see what drugs are being used and in what amounts in different areas.

Flushing vermiculite down a drain is a extraordinarily bad idea.....if it clogs at some point you're running the risk of bursting the pipes and causing major water damage to the building....it's a non-soluble material unlike human waste or other organic compounds that can be broken down over time. ... this is a very bad idea.

At least run some drain-o down afterwards....it's corrosive so that would be enough to catch any clumping...

Dumping in other peoples trash is illegal. Are you going to want to put yourself in that situation? Trash men are also nosey, or at the very least have the ability to be.
This is all coming from someone who pictures his tattoos with his mushrooms and tried calling me a cop for asking about a grow. I think you are paranoid in all the wrong places

I put mine in garbage bags and give them to the garbage disposal. They do their route everyday and they aren't gonna stop to see what I have in the bags unless it's see-through and you have items that should be recycled instead. Most people here don't even know what the stuff we use are. Oh yeah, and here you gotta be careful not to fill the bag too much, the guy who comes on my side of the street is worried about his spine so if your bags are "too heavy" he will leave them there. Asshole Doesn't even neccessarily need to be heavy, even a bag a little heavier than average gets left behind.
This is a good idea for those living with nosy neibors though, I can understand why one would want to do this. I used to put my spent tubs in big pots outside but that attracted gnats which turned into a really bad problem. Couldn't get rid of them for some time.

Because, the tubs might still grow mushrooms and you will get the local rat population high. Please be responsible.

Seems effective, however its a damn shame like many others have said. I have gotten so many good mushrooms putting my subs in the woods - but it is a little bit of a hassle for me cause I do live in the city.
Another option if you live in the city is to cut the substrates in half and load them in plastic grocery bags, spray mist heavily into the bag, loosely tie the bag closed leaving a hole for FAE and put them in a backpack. Go to your favorite local park towards the evening hour and dump the bags off of a trail in the woods, in a shady area. Come back a few days later for an innocent stroll and notice all the pins you have
Once you notice your not getting anymore fruits just put the bags in your backpack so your not littering and leave the subs to fruit on the forest floor.

So many bad ideas in this thread aside from the OP I can't even. This is practically the only way you can get caught in this hobby. Why risk all this for a bs 5th flush? Destroy, or use in the garden. If you love in a city or don't have property, it's a shame but that shit needs to be disposed of.

Yeah. In the end, most of us grow shrooms as a hobby and we end up having too many shrooms to know what to do with. Why risk getting caught with a bag of sub when you are going to have another younger tub ready to harvest in a week? I mean, even if you get caught by a cop with the IQ of your average chicken, you are getting fined, at the very least.

Maybe you're pushing 20 lbs of dry fruits a week and 250 lbs of spent substrate every few days in the dumpers next to your house is a no-go?
I'm in an APT right now so I have 30 nosy neighbors and I'm not down to have crazy shit going down in the dumpster people look for free shit in. I made it pretty clear in the OP why you would use this tek over other easier disposal methods but I guess we all have different levels of paranoia or bad experiences. Even at a house you need to be careful disposing of spent cakes, we had a landscaping crew come through one time I though my compost pile was a good place to dispose of them. Came home to around 2 lbs of mycelium in the driveway like his boss made him dump it out before they hit the road.
When I'm gambling my time, money, and freedom I could give a shit about a few extra fruits popping up outside, I mean I guess I could add that to the 3 foot tall pile but why bother..
