OFFICIAL ** Western Australia Psilocybe Season 2016**

Didn't expect my first post to be a season starter, but it seems the WA crowd are laying low this year. So hi and all.
Found plenty over the weekend, with such a great amount of rainfall and cold enough temps I was expecting a better showing than the same time last year and I wasn't disappointed. Heaps of big older rotten subs around as well.
These were found from various places around water and near but not in pine forests within the blue triangle with a mix of pine needles and native debris and litter. Also, around bracken fern, blackberry and in patches of sour sops and grass.
Sorry for the crappy camera phone photos, but I was being fairly quick as it was very busy around our favourite sleepy towns. Can only see it getting better from here...
Here is some of the loot and some habitat shots: (one of them is from a shop front garden-bed on a main street!)

Cheers. If I had more time I could have setiously cleaned up, but also have no need I guess. I would also have loved to get further down the river and tried some places well away from Balingup/Nannup/Bridgetown.
I hope to see some habitat shots from lesser known areas/spots this year as the conditions are good and the more people search away from the known spots the bigger the area we will all have. It's nice to be able to relax a little like SA and the east coast when in the field
90% were picked out of Balingup and none from 'Sniper Alley'.

Cheers, I have only ever seen a few here and there in WA. The big one is nice and shiny...
Sniper Alley = the spot you are most likely to get caught at in Balingup. Trying to respect the location rules

Nice finds focus! I recognise the patch. Unfortunately cops do patrol the area. Cops do know of the bigger patches away from bal so just remember to be careful.
Here's some pics of a suburban Perth patch. Sorry for the quality

Yeah, I was pretty well setup to avoid detection, but I did see a few other people around the last session there. That was one of three spots, I didn't take any habitat shots of the other places. Time is the biggest problem for me in getting further out.
As for the Perth pics, that is fucking amazing. Isn't that a first apart from backyard patches? I have veen lurking here and Shanan Australis for more than a decade and have never heard of a proper metro patch.

MATE! WTF? I was just down there this weekend doing a BIG search and didn't find anything. Nor did I find anything the previous year or the year before that!
I looked in the pine Forrest right off "sniper alley", the one on the right that goes uphill at the start and all that is growing is a HUMONGOUS turd load of galerinas and philotas :X I did find some aminatas as I did the year before too
I also checked the pine forrest up north west of balingup past airstrips and I also checked some pine forrests halfway from balingup to nannup on both left and right sides even by the river. STILL NOTHING.
Frankly, I think there is a conspiracy. Local cops posting on these forums so that people will come down and they can bust them. Why? BECAUSE THERE ARE NO BLOODY SUBS ANYMORE, ANYWHERE. waste of money, waste of effort   Forrest was beautiful tho

Dude. Stop looking in pine forests. Look on the edge of pines. In gullys and other plantations

Not sure how much reading and field work you have done, but it does take a while to get into the groove. I had many unsuccessful missions around Balingup and Nannup including obvious spots for the first few attempts many years ago. Even finding one or two was a buzz at first.
The thing that I got wrong so many times was spending too much time in pine forests. I read what to do, but didn't absorb the info properly, especially as I had some experience in SA where it is much easier and the subs are less fussy! That is why I described the habitat so clearly in my first post above.
Here's a good re-jig if you haven't done this already:
Follow rivers/brooks/creeks look for where a pine plantation finishes nearby the water. Look for a nice fat clearing between the water and the pines. Look for a few stray pines among native trees, shrubs and often bracken fern and maybe blackberry. Start near the stray pines, subs like to be shaded, but will still fruit in clearish spots. The combination of pine needles, rotting sticks and wood and leaf litter is one environment they like. You will also find them near water in pure native settings, so the whole pine forest thing is a catalyst and an indicator, but not totally necessary now that they have spread their wings in the triangle.
If you have time, get well away from Balingup and even Nannup and go somewhere where you aren't looking over your shoulder and spend a day or two looking until your eyes give out. If you find a patch away from these towns you will feel like a boss and be able to relax.
Also, you can pretty much guarentee that anywhere in the blue triangle you can find bark/wood/pine mulch in a disturbed setting, i.e garden beds, landscaping, parks there will be some action if the conditions are right. Hence the photos with nasturtiums above. Pity there is not more of it used in the region.

Returned from a 2 trip down south. Mainly adventured around surrounding forrest close to Bally and Nannup. Saw lots and lots of fungi around - very damp everything is so green at the moment its great.
This was my third year down and yet to find any fruit . I explored as many small creeks, low lying gullies and various pine and eucalyptus environments as i could. Did a loop of the blackwood in one section thats shaped like heart (Im sure some know this spot) Found one area where there over 6 different species of fungi that i was certain would have subs buttttt still no love haha.
Ive avoided heading into the main patch each time as i really dont want any sort of interaction with the boys in blue - which by the way where out on the prowl, i was followed for about 20 min down balingup nannup rd untill they hit Wrights bridge and popped in for a squizz... mabye theres a regular spot down there.
Aside not coming home with any subs its always a pleasure to get down there and enjoy the countryside and fresh air. Im thinking if i head down again i may do a night mission to the main patch and risk it but well see.
If any one ever want a exploring buddy feel free to PM me, have a great little 4wd and a keen set of legs
Peace

I found these SW of Balingup. I was hoping for an ID on these? I'm pretty excited, they really look like subaeruginosa to me
