Question about pinning and dunking/cold shock
    #2331252 - 02/13/04 04:04 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

I birthed my cakes in the terrarium about a week and a day ago but I'm not getting any pins. The mycellium is fluffing out and stuff but no pinning. I think one of my problems may be that I've been keeping the temperature too low. To solve this, I bought a fish tank heater. Here's my problem, should I just move the cakes for a minute or two while i put the heater in, or do you think that I could take the cakes and go ahead and dunk them/cold shock them in the fridge and put the heater in while they're being dunked. Or would this be a bad idea since I've already had them in the terrarium for about a week?
Any input would be appreciated.

In my experience if the myc seemed to be ready when
in the jars (either with no pinning), you should just leave
the cakes on the terrarium. Low temperature: what do you
mean? If we r talking of Psylo Cub 21 ? C / 26 ? C are
almost optimal, remember the high and constant RH; also
the air exchange (I donno how's the setup of your
incubator).
And avoid touching / moving / working on the cakes... I got
a perfect cake contaminated by acting like that :frown:

How long did you incubate your jars? and at what temp?
Maybe a cold shock could have been a good idea, but now
I would just wait. If the myc seems healthy and the cakes
not dry, wait.
