also, i did mine without putting paper towels on the tops before the foil, a couple times because i forgot about it, and they turned out the same as the one with paper towel. idk what that means =p just giving an observation. i havent tried to do any of them with unsealed, though.

Same here but I use sfd for my filter...

pasty said the paper towel is to keep the micropore from sticking to the foil. micropore is waterproof so we only need the foil to keep water out of the plate.

Ah ok I thought it was also for condensation or keeping the filter from being wet?

It is. When the filter gets wet it then sticks to the foil.

They're also handy for writing down variety, transfer number, etc., and you can recycle them plenty. I write in a standard BIC pen in small font, then when I'm done, I Sharpie it out and start again. When that side is done, you can flip it over and repeat. When that side is done, you can flip them inside out. I still have paper towels from the first plates I ever made a year ago.

Also you can use them to wipe off the condensation if you move them directly from the PC to the SAB since they're still clean. I'm not going to recommend that since condensation isn't a big deal and there's no guarantee they stay sterile from the move, but I've done it probably 20+ times without contams.

If I'm going to steam sterilize my pasty plates is there anything I need to change about this besides steaming for ~2 hours? Maybe a looser agar mixture or anything like that? Tips and tricks?

Don't make a looser agar mixture. Follow the recipe exactly.

You'll get less evaporation because you're using a lower temperature. It will all even out.

Pasty my darling, is this a workable method sort of combining yours with another one?

Basically using light malt extract and agar powder. Method is as follows
1. Combine LME + Agar powder in a glass with water + swirl until powder has disolved.
2. Add food colouring
3. Pour into PP5 containers and customize the lids in your tek + add paper towels on top with foil wrapped.
4. Place in PC + Add water + lid.
5. Leave weight off + place heat on high until steady stream of steam.
6. PC for 30 mins at 15psi once weight has been added + turned down to med/low heat.
7. Leave overnight in PC to cool and transfer to SAB for use.

Does that method still seem ok? Just wanted another opinion

Use any recipe you want provided its geared to fungi. Malt, potatos, carrots, cornstarch, turnips, V8, beets, dogfood, cat kibble, grainwater, etc, all make good bases. Add simple sugars at around 1% or omit if the base is high in simple sugar to begin with (like carrot or beet). Simple sugars are things like dextrose, honey, karo, SITR. Its good to change things up regularly to keep the cultures aggressive.

To melt it? Depends on the agar mostly. Some agar melts in cold water, normally myco grade is like that. But agar bars or flakes need heat and time before they melt. Some powders also don't melt easily, I avoid chinese sellers for this reason. I bought some agar powder from ebay, gel strength sucked balls, if I tilted the plate the agar would fall down in a blob at the bottom and no matter how agar rich the mix is, it just wouldn't gel properly. It took forever to melt it as well, kinda funny yet sick in the same time, it was advertised as "quick dissolve".

Bought some from the UK and I fell in love with the stuff. Melts in cold tap water so I just throw it my the bottle, add tap water and swirl it around a few times and bam! ready for the PC.

Out of all the things in the world that are racist, finding engrish funny really isn't one of them, engrish is fucking hilarious.
