There has to be an alternative on hand. And a lunchbox likely wouldn't even fit in my fridge, that's why I'm thinking something smaller or an alternative. A quart jar might not even work.
I've wrapped the bags in hand towels and that doesn't seem to do much. And I'm afraid double bagging would cut off all air and harm the myc?

Pretty sure it doesn't matter too much if you cut off all the air in the fridge.. Aren't pretty much all slants stored that way?

I thought slants were stored less than tight with parafilm specifically so they can breathe a little. But slants also have wood for them to lie dormant in so maybe no air is fine with that? I don't know, just know my PP's survived for like 8 months in there no problem, but when it got really warm, they went green and had pools of water. Something is getting to them.
I need to invest in some slants are some point as well. Maybe I'll make a fridge for myco-fridge setups.

Stare, I thought using a thermal tote is enough? I thought the main thing was to have consistency in temperature. I also thought slants should be slightly loose with parafilm to breath. I keep cultures in a cooler myself, as I don't trust my fridge and don't have a clean mini to use.

Try wrapping them in paper towels and putting them in a mason jar if you can swing it.
I don't have any issues with my fridge but the extra insulation may help.
You also may be having an issue with your fridge, usually they don't have mood swings like that lol.
Last year our fridge kept warmin up when it cycled and ruining our food so we had to replace the timer.
1 other thing, a full fridge is colder than an empty one
Good luck hope you can work it out.

Termal tote, like a cooler or a lunchbox that is insulated. I was stoned and couldn't think of the word.

Glass jars do offer some insulation although I'm not sure if it will be enough. I don't store dishes in my fridge for this exact reason. The amount of condensation is incredible. I did buy this big ass pp5 styrofoam like thingy so maybe I should try again. It seemed so small when I was looking at it in the store but it barely fit in the fridge, used up half it's inside volume

Also, agar dishes do not really nead GE, people use all kinds of non-breathable saran wraps on petri dishes so you will be fine in jars. I use my pp5s without a GE hole since I pour in them. Pretty sure the GE hole in pasty's tek is there to evaporate the excess condensation no-pour teks create in general.

The hole in the pastyplates keeps them from getting crushed in the PC.

Doesn't he say to leave them 1/3 open? I thought he did. Anyway, the hole does help a lot with condensation, without it, it would take a long ass time for the condensation to disappear.

Yeah I don't keep them open either. And actually, my paper towel doesn't get noticeably wet.

It's not because of the steam, it's because of the temperature differential. When you pour agar, you wait for it to cool enough to be able to handle it with your hands, it significantly reduces condensation.

also, i did mine without putting paper towels on the tops before the foil, a couple times because i forgot about it, and they turned out the same as the one with paper towel. idk what that means =p just giving an observation. i havent tried to do any of them with unsealed, though.

pasty said the paper towel is to keep the micropore from sticking to the foil. micropore is waterproof so we only need the foil to keep water out of the plate.Quote:

that's Violet's pod tek.. you can't really do that with the press top pp5s. but the screw tops breathe enough 1/3 open

Ah ok I thought it was also for condensation or keeping the filter from being wet?

I'll try and find one of those bitches at the thrift store then. Do you put them in Ziplocs first as well?
My 1/2 pint agar plates seem to do much better in the fridge by comparison, although they're a lot bigger.
