Just wanted to post to get updates. Been fly fishing (almost exclusively) for ~15 years. I totally caught the bug first time out after catching several browns on dry flies. Only problem is the Canadian winter when I have to hang of the rod for the season. As we are plunged into a wickedly cold deep freeze I feel some relief in knowing that we are only 6 Mondays away from spring :ooo:

Would be great if we could all post some spring trout pics caught on the fly.

I'm finally done with a lifetime of fishing but I used to really enjoy fly fishing smallmouth bass in Michigan rivers with home tied streamers.

Sorry to hijack this thread but just wanted to tell you guys about a trade proposal I put on the marketplace and figured lots of people may not look at the marketplace. Anyways I'm trying to get some more edible cultures to work with. I literally have everything fly fishing and would love to make a trade. If u have cultures then let me know what you want or need in fly fishing and I will get it for you.

I love the N. Umpqua  I like the Williamson down southern Oregon way. Oregon has outstanding fly fishing for some very very big fish. The Wood river is another small river that has lots of 5-10 pd trout. Bows Browns, and Brookies.

I have fished the McKenzie a handful of times just upstream of Eugene and have had a blast catching some nice rainbows.

I just camped on the N. Umpqua last weekend, but have yet to take my rod with my while out there.  Going to have to do that some time soon!

The North Umpqua can be a mother fucker to learn, but when she starts unlocking herself, I can't imagine a cooler place to fish, not to mention, the big steelhead.

I have not done any steelhead fishing yet, so if you have any advice you are willing to share I am all ears. I just started fly fishing this past year and have only targeted bows and browns so far, but would like to expand that to steelhead, bull, and salmon this coming year.

dodgem, My big thing is keep it simple, pink yarn ball flies will produce more fish than an expensive intruder.  You don't need a spey rod, and a dozen different heads.  If we get a good summer run in the Mckenzie this year they are a great place to pop your cherry.

So jealous! Here in a deep freeze. Only fishing going on is through a hole in the ice. Can't wait for the spring to get here.

Tight lines to you and your mate. Post pics!

I fish the The great Lakes tribs for steelies. Theres an amazing amount of techniques that work, but float fishing is probably the easiest and requires less investment. Steelhead can be picky..when the usual stuff isnt working...sometimes just offering something different can make a huge difference.
