I went with two of the Redington Topo outfits, one each for my buddy and I. Can't wait for them to come in and him to get here next week so we can get out on the water and catch dem fishies!
I went fishing a couple weeks ago with my buddy, but I only had about 24 hours there so ended up empty handed that time. We went up to the Cascade Lakes, easily one of the most breathtaking places I have camped/fished. The sunsets while on the water were unreal.

The rainstorms have everything all jacked up around here. Forced to go up past the Feather River because the dam is coming apart! I was going to try to get to skwala stonefly hatch that goes off a few hours north in Feb/March but it just won't stop raining. March brown mayflys are my next bet to get up there for some rainbows next month. Rain rain go away! It's bitter sweet because it ended the drought but now it won't stop. Rivers are cookin!
Look at this shit!

Just bellow the second dam in oroville, Used to kill it using fly rod with small red bead. Steel Head. Nice browns in those waters as well. Up on the lake,North end. Lime saddle was all about fly rod and small poppers top water fishing the big bass back there. The outlet down by the after bay just below oroville was good for the bi annual kings, Good times for sure.

Had a great day on the Clark Fork. It was 95 degrees so it almost shut down the rive activity but I managed to get around 25 trout to eat my bugs. 1/2 on a hopper and 1/2 on the PT I was dropping off the hopper. I could tell the run we floated had potential to easily have 40-50 fish days when the temperature was lower and a lot of dry fly love. The scenery was 2nd to none. The river is nice and wide. It had that rocky mountain feel and two or three old "Stand By Me" bridges for the train. Only had one fish over 20". The rest were 16-18". Hope everyone is having a good summer chucking bugs and grinnin.

That's a fat bow....too bad the weather was so hot for you....I'm not a fan of fishing on hot days...especially in a boat. looks like a beautiful river. If you don't mind me asking, what is a PT? I use droppers a lot but usually small nymphs...not sure if that is what you are talking about.

It's a pheasant tail nymph. They use these rather large flashback style pheasant tail nymphs in Montana that never fail in bigger rivers.

I see...I use pheasant tails in the #16-20 range as droppers....never heard them called PT's before lol. It is funny how often they take them rather than the dry.

I have been out a couple times this past week to the Middle Fork of the Willamette River up near Oakridge, OR. My buddy Ben that I bought the rod for and I went with my 'mentor' and his girl a few days ago and we all ended up with 5-10 smaller guys around 8 in and then one or two closer to 12, nothing crazy big though. We checked out a few different spots and had good success each time. Ben caught his first rainbow trout and first ever fish on a fly rod, it was an awesome day!
Yesterday I went out with Ben and another new friend who bought his first ever fly rod set up the day before. We stopped at a new spot that looked decent and boy was it productive. Ben caught one before I was even done showing the new guy how to set up his rod, and it didn't slow down after that. I ended up with close to 15 overall, mostly smaller again but had one nice 13 or 14'er that was a lot of fun. I was able to witness the new guy catch his first ever fish on a flyrod from a distance and gave him a nice hoot and haller while he was reeling it in. And then later he caught a fatty that was around 15 which was pretty exciting. It was getting late and we still had to drive 30 minutes to our campground but I just did not want to put my rod down as fish we rising for our flies until the very end.
It has been fun 'teaching' the newbies what little knowledge I have of the sport, and has really made me better as well. Can't wait to get back out there!

Broke my rod tip by rolling up my window a few days back. Stop by my local fly shop and had it sent in for repair/replacement. Going to be 2 weeks until I get it back.

Happens to us all....Have you ever left your rod on top of your vehicle and drove off?...Lol..I have more than once. The manufacturer will probably just send you a new rod tip.

Nice fish! Thanks for sharing!
I head to Montana the 1st week of August so I'll post some pics after the trip.
This was me wading the Madison last year. After lunch I found an epic seam off that grass point and proceeded to put on a clinic for my friends that were watching. Railed like 20 fish in an hour.

My Grandfather taught me when I was little. 57 now. My Girls don't fish but I look at that like a good thing. They won't be taking my best flies. LOL

My buddy that got me in to fly fishing last year flew home for a week and had me watch his house/dogs for him. I took full advantage of his fly tying room and some youtube videos and tied my first flies. They started out pretty rough, but once I got the hang of things they kept looking better and better. I made 4 adams flies, and the difference between the first fly and the last one is quite comical. It was awesome understanding the process of how the flies are put together and tied, but the best part was catching a fish with my own fly!
I took my girlfriend out last week for her first fly fishing experience and we had a blast! I caught two trout with my own fly and then let my girlfriend use it and she caught two more (that being her first fish with a fly rod as well)!
Here are two of the flies I tied.

Here is the spot we have fished the last couple times out (this is just a small section of the river). There are a couple different seams that I have great luck on so far, and a couple other nice spots as well. Great when 2 or 3 of us go out as there is plenty of room for us all to spread out and do our own thing.

Looks like maybe an elk hair caddis and an adams?....cool stuff! What a good feeling it is to catch them on flies that you tie yourself.

Correct on both. We are going to have a few fly tying nights this winter, which will be nice since with all the rain here it is hard to do much else. And that way I'll be stocked up on flies for the upcoming year.
I have made it out 3 times this past week, checking out new sections of the middle fork of the Willamette River. I've had decent success at most spots, and great success at one of them. Had a nice 13 in+ rainbow give me a battle before busting off right before I could net him. I was able to land a couple nice 12 inchers yesterday before heading in to work.
Time to get some October Caddis out on the water and see what is biting.
