Does anyone else here fly fish? I just a week with my sons in upstate Pa. and had an awesome time. The hatches were in good form and the trout were heavy. The ones in the pics range between 18 and 22" and are all different trout. The dude in the pic is not me, he's my son lol.

Thanks....Yeah....I've been tying and fishing since I was 10 yrs. old....56 now...The cool thing is when you see your sons do the same and begin to be better fishermen than me. It truly is a beautiful sport.

Can't believe I missed this thread! Been fly fishing for 20 years now. I love it. My father has taken my brother and I up on an annual fishing trip in Montana our whole adult lives. Looks like you and your son have the same type of relationship. Truly a relaxing vacation when you can hit the river to chuck some bugs around and grin out.
Nice fish! Thanks for sharing!
I head to Montana the 1st week of August so I'll post some pics after the trip.
This was me wading the Madison last year. After lunch I found an epic seam off that grass point and proceeded to put on a clinic for my friends that were watching. Railed like 20 fish in an hour.

Missed this to. I plan on getting into fly fishing soon. Mainly for small mouth. Have a river walking distance from me that is full of small mouth. I wouldn't mind fishing steel head either.

That is some beautiful scenery there. I may start doing some western fishing in the next couple years. Is August a pretty good time for hatches out there?...Giant stone flies, caddis?

August is solid for hoppers and the usual suspects like caddis, etc. The fish are all fat gorged and aggressive. Less crowded too. We usually go in August if there is a good snow pack. A lot of it is based on the snow pack because the water level is really pulled down by the agriculture in Montana.
The stone fly hatch is only two weeks and is in June range. If you can hit it the fishing is epic.
I have fished with the same guides for almost 15 years now so if you ever need info PM me. They are good dudes. Best fishing I've ever done.
This will give you an idea of how many rivers are accessible in this one spot: http://4riversmontana.com/

No there are public boat launches and accesses everywhere on the rivers. We hire guides and do float trips. If we are there a week usually 4 floats and 2 wading days on our own. The floats are when you get the fatties and stop to wade spots like that where you can't access by foot/car.

Thanks man.....I am really leaning to doing a trip out there next year with my sons. I'll hit you back if you I need some more info. Also, If you're ever in the northeast in the spring....I'd be happy to help you out with some nice fishing locations. I've been fly fishing Pa. streams for 35 years.

Leaving for Montana on Saturday AM and I can hardly contain myself. 4 days of float trips and at least 2 days of walk and wades this year. There may be a reality TV crew filming us for a TV show about fishing guides so I hope they hook me up with some HD footage of me catching a bunch of fish.

Spring River browns are huge! I'll check out the Buffalo online that sounds sweet. I used to live in Shreveport so I went up to Broken Bow, OK a few times but never had the time to get to up further.

Nice man it is nice and cool up there. Down in the forks it is like it is like 85-90 right now but I think we'll be good as long as it doesn't go over 90. Then they start shutting rivers down @ 2PM
