Praying
    #2328547 - 02/12/04 11:07 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I know most of you on here are not Christians, in fact, most of you don't even believe in God. However, I do have a request. My mother is in the hospital with kidney failure. She only has about 15% function left total. Most of the local churches have been told, and I've been busy calling all of my friends.
My request is to pray for her and all of us. Just let God's will be done, even if it is not what I want. Thank you all who will be with my family and me in spirit.

*big hug* I truly hope your mom is able to recover from this. If it's any help at all, my mom almost died a few years ago due to immense blood loss. She had to have 4 bags of blood in transfusion and an emergency hystorectomy. She's alive and better than ever now. Hopefully the same will be true for yours. I'm not a Christian, but you've got my support, and my prayers.

Sorry to hear of that bro.

Just let God's will be done, even if it is not what I want.
I am not trying to be insensitive, but I am curious as to what you are trying to "accomplish"? Do you believe that he is unaware of your family's pain? Won't "Gods' will" be done no matter what?

good point, but maybe God's will is to help if enough people pray.

I am truely sorry about your mother. I believe hope is stronger then prayer, but that's just my opinion. All my hope right now is with you and your family.

Well, I AM a Christian, and in liew of a full recovery, I pray that your Mom has a gentle transition from this plane +++ I pray that she attains peace and fearlessness in the face of death - a bliss that makes attachment to life and aversion to death irrelevant to her +++ I pray that when her time comes, she passes with a smile on her lips +++ And I pray that strength and peace be given to you in the face of our human finitude and mortality. May you have the opportunity to give solace to your Mom for her eventual passage by being there in peace and Compassion +++ I ask this in the Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen +++

All of this, is what I asked for as I attended to my own Mother's death in March '96, and except for the ventilator which occulted a visible smile, I know that it was there, despite her pain. We are, all of us, here on Earth but for a season. Let us all seek the Eternal GOD in all things and in every moment, that our transitions may be peaceful.

I'm Muslim, but what's the difference, right? I hope your mother gets well, she will be in my prayers and thoughts, good luck bro.

What I meant is that I want her to live, but that may not necessarily be in God's plan. But I do trust him and believe that she in fact will make it through, if not, she will be in a much better place.
Today she told me that last night she had a dream that I killed a tiger with my bare hands. I told her I dreamt that I killed a gigantic monster moose. I wonder if there is any significance? Oh well, thanks for the support.

But I do trust him and believe that she in fact will make it through, if not, she will be in a much better place.

Yet, you pray for her survival (as we all would). So I repeat, if God has a plan, what do you hope to accomplish by getting us all to pray for her if the outcome will be the same either way?

Usually the prayer goes "whatever you will is".

(3rd time)

So then what is the point if God will do the same whether you pray or not?

The point is that the prayer changes the conciousness of the person praying. Prayer has the potential to shift our conciousness from fear and darkness to love and acceptance, therefore whether "God's" action will be changed due to it is irrelevant.

As a side note, after I've already taken part in the debate I don't know how considerate it is to be debating the validity of prayer in this particular thread.

I have always felt it is better to be thankful for what one is given rather than asking for what one wants...
