ok i live in CA and im finding it difficult to get spores so i was wondering if its possible to get spores from a dried shroom considering it would be more easy to get ahold of shrooms than spores here in CA...funny how that works

I don't think you'll be able too. Someone who knows more about this will post something soon. Good luck

You could transfer some dried gill material onto agar but expect some contamination.

You need a few clean dishes and you just start with one and put some dry gills on the dish wait for growth cut out the best piece and continue to the next dish un till you get a clean and contam free culture. Someone correct me if im wrong i have never done this just assuming.

Haven't done this, but all I can really say is good luck. I don't think there's any way to do this besides agar, and at that it's risky. Maybe somehow you could humidify it again and do it, but my best guess is not. Oh well.

You can't re-humidify a shroom after it's been dried. Well, you could, I guess, but it would be soggy, and un mushroom like.

I think i read in the Mushroom Cultivator that you need to put an drop water on the cap, then they will spore again a little. But i think you really need some Dishes because of contams.

that will only work with fresh mushrooms, only picked within a couple of days, if they have been dried spores will remaim on the golls...agar run is the only was to go on a dried gill

If I were going to try to do that, I would make light syringes from whatever spores I could knock out of a cap with purple gills.
Then I would innoculate several PF jars and hope that at least one clean innoculation spot would germinate, then I would take a chunk of that innoculation point and transfer it to some peroxidated agar.
Then I would make liquid mycelium with a chunk of colonized agar or the origional mycelium and innoculate some jars with that, grow shrooms and make prints from those.

come on guys - it USED to be common knowledge that by far the easiest way to get a print from a dried mushroom is to simply place a few drops of water on the cap - if it is able to slightly rehydrate it should drop atleast enought spores. as for using agar - i highly doubt that you would have kept the fruit in a sterile environment when you were drying so i think it would be far too difficult with contaminants to bother...

THEBOSS is right.
You'd want to make up a bunch of agar cultures and place gill/spores/dust from different parts of the cap (or baggie depending on what you have to work with) in different spots on the agar.
Wait to see which spots aren't contaminated, cut them out, and move them to a different agar plate.
Could take a lot of plates and a lot of spots.
My friend did this with dust from a baggie and managed to isolate a clean culture. He had more steps too, but that's the gist of it for a non-biology minded individual.
