[Note: RR clearly wrote that P Mexicana was his favorite of the bunch; however Stonesun wrote "section Mexicanae".
Does P. Mexicana and the Mexicanae family mean the same thing? Does P. Mexicana or Mexicanae mean strains such as A/B/Jalisco? Would ATL #7 be part of the Mexicanae family? Could somebody please illuminate. :sun:]

Mexicanae is a section in the Psilocybe genus.
Some species in this section produce sclerotia, like P. mexicana, P. tampanensis
and P. galindoi, just to name the "infamous three".
When you refer to "ATL#7" it is actually P. galindoi, so yes, that's part of
the Mexicanae too.
A/B/Jalisco are variants of P. mexicana.
When I wrote that my favorite is section Mexicanae to cultivate, I meant that I like it's
species for their overall macroscopic appearance.
As far as sclerotia production goes, my ultimate favorite is P. mexicana/A.
The yield is fantastic, but it is pretty difficult to fruit.
P. galindoi/ATL#7 has lower but still great yield however it's much easier to fruit.
P. tampanesis yields OK, fruits OK.
This is from the cultivator POV only, since I don't trip.
Hope it clears some thing up.

speaking of, I poured 3x the amount of blenderless LI I normally do into this bottle (it was the leftover LI at the end of the batch). ended up with 100% colonization in 4 days! now the question is do I spawn this one to a mini, or do I wait for the others to catch up?!

Seriously Munch thank you so much for sharing that tek. I swear in like 3 days fully colonized reishi jars. :awesomenod:

Also what is this A/B/Jalisco bit going on about? I still haven't tried Jalisco but I have it on syringe. What are the A and B about? Looks like I have all 3 of the main sclerotia producers now. One of my goals in life now is to collect the like 127 types that have actives in it although I hear there has been debate if some were miss-classified or something. would be awesome if we had some updated info on that or know where to check on that for the latest.

If i remember correctly, A produces fruits more than stones, and B is vice versa

I thought ATL#7 was found to be a different species and was later named Ps. Atlantis, wasn't it?

I just inoculated my first galindoi jars a few days ago via a shitload of LC, hopefully I don't get a lot of contams since I almost always contam my LC jar when using ports. Dunno what it is with me and ports, my inoculations always fuck up with them.

I also have a vial that should be Pan Goliath but I'm suspecting someone mislabeled the vial and that it's actually galindoi. The Goliath mycelium started to turn yellow/orange-ish. Would make sense tbh, the goliath vial was sent by mistake, I was actually expecting a galindoi vial. It's all too confusing. My head hurts :crazy2:

So these are just names someone came up with then to describe the strains qualities or are these stains that people have cultivated over time that are floating around out there? Like will people know what I'm talking about if I say I want to trade for Jalisco B? Or will they just look at me funny haha.:ohyeah:

Jalisco is a different variety than B AFAIK. And yes, if anyone knows anything about sclerotia producers, they will know what you are talking about. It's the same with cubes, some are called this and some are called that. Both are basically the same species, they just have different phenotypes. PE grows large and thick while AA+ is generally smaller and leucistic. Same with Ps. mex, some produce more stones while others produce more fruits.

I like how galindoi turns yellow for example, I was told it was the only one that does that.

As a person growing ATL and tamps can confirm. Thought I was getting aborts in my tamps jars until someone told me they produce sclerotia also. Tamps make white stones from my observations.

I think Atlantis is just the market name..

I guess it makes it sound cooler for buyers that don't know about it lol.

Either way, i got this from Sporework's website "A direct comparison of samples with the published description of P. atlantis has confirmed Guzman's findings. The strain ATL#7 is not Psilocybe atlantis but is instead a related species in the Section Mexicanae. This new collection closely resembles Psilocybe galindoi (galindii), a species previously known only from Mexico. For lack of a better name, we are going to unofficially call this sample Psilocybe galindoi var. Georgia. If this species is described in a scientific journal and given a different name, we will amend this description. Efforts are now underway to provide authenticated spore samples of Psilocybe atlantis.

Both species can be viewed in the Sporeworks Microscopy Gallery Section Mexicanae for side by side comparisons of microscopic features. Note that the authentic Psilocybe atlantis cheilocystidia are irregularly branched and the Psilocybe galindoi var. Georgia cheilocystidia are unbranched. Psilocybe atlantis spores are also somewhat smaller. Currently, no mushrooms matching this collection have been described as occurring in the United States."

Hey I recognize that label
I'm excited.

I had the biggest fruits from that bag that I only used like a quart of spawn, maybe even a pint
I just mixed it up inside of a filter patch bag like I would a mono and then rubber banded a big piece of poly on top, got my biggest fruits ever out of it

 The sponsor I bought it from says it's a different species altogether. I was confused when I first bought it since there is a lot of debate on the subject. I thought I saw the same thing being said on wikipedia but I just looked it up to link it here and I must have missed the part where it says that it's related to mex. I'm guessing even the wiki is wrong in naming it Ps. atlantis though, right? It should be Ps. Mex var. atlantis/georgia/galindoi/whateverthefuck.
