Can you absolutely be unbiased?

Would you have to be completely apathetic and detached to reach this state? Is it a positive thing?

what you think is positive depends on your personality. this was determined by how you react to certain situations in life. your personality which is composed of your ego and rational mind work together to create a view of reality that you have today (hehe of course this is just my view )

to be unattached is to jsut realize that none of these htings are actually you. your ego defends what is right and what is wrong, this leaves us vulnerable to negativity.

what I mean is this, to identify your self (your true essential nature) with your personality is an illusion. to be detached really means that you don't identify your true nature with your personality.

this means you can just simply observe the drama that is around you. there's nothing to stress about. it is a peaceful and calm place within yourself.

judgement depends on what and who you think you are. how you VIEW youself an the world around you.

btw welcome to S&P

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.---senior doobie

What I meant by positive is - Is apathy and detachment healthy for you and for those around you?

What if you witness something like a 3 year old being molested by an adult, can apathy be OK? "what you think is positive depends on your personality." I agree. This can be viewed as a positive subjectively (i.e. serial killers), but that is pretty biased!

What raised this question were 2 extremes: to know nothing at all (to have experienced life in a vacuum) vs. to know everything and to come to such state. Is ignorance really bliss or can that state be reached (which you pretty much answered).

Thanks for the welcome.

Even apathy is not unbiased. You still see the world through your own subjective point of view, and not necessarily as it is.

I'd have to say no.

No one knows the worth of innocence till he knows it is gone forever, and that money can't buy it back. Not the saint, but the sinner that repenteth, is he to whom the full length and breadth, and height and depth, of life's meaning is revealed. Good and evil loose all objective meaning and are seen as equally necessary and contrasting elements in the masterpiece that is the universe.

For periods of time, you can be.... but that individual perspective will always come back.

What you can do, though, is to think through it less and less... the ego is a well meaning friend that needs to be taken out of power and put in the old folk's home.
Peace.
