Deer poo

Ok, i was wondering if anyone has ever tried deer poo for a bulk tek? All i ever hear about is either horse, or cow, and once rabbit (which was said to be very good). Deer and rabbit poo are both in pellets, now i was going to use a ratio of 1/3 deer poo, 2/3 horse poo, and mix some straw into that. I want to make Miniture bulk grow trays, using 1 or 2 PF style cakes as spawn. Can anyone give me some advice on this?

Deer poo is like sheep poo, I've heard of sheep poo being used, and I've picked liberty caps in places grazed by deer and sheep, so I don't see why not.

If mixed with straw, then I'm pretty sure it would work fine.

Cool, i like the idea of pellets, it seems as though there would be more air pockets for the myc. Do you think i should mix maybe 2/3'rds deer poo, and 1/3 horse poo? Also, shuld i pasturize it and everything the same? and can i mix it all up, and pasturize it together? Thanks for the info!

First the poo should be airated becouse contams can lerk within
second deer usually eat buds of apple trees and shrubs and shit like that
the reason horse poo is so supperior is cause alot of people have pride for thier horses so they feed them straw and grain pellets which is suppreme growing medium.
If you get the deer poo from a deer farm find out what they feed the deer first and then make a judgement but if you are collecting this from the field I would think it wouldnt do so well
The reason rabbit works so well is the are feed grain pellets and hay

Well, when I've used poo, I've always broken it up and mixed it with straw, I used to do about half and half, but now I mix it as 8 to 10 straw to 1 poo, measured in handfulls. To much poo makes it flat and muddy, wear as the straw helps it stay light and airy.


Mix these together then pasturise soaked in water at 170?F / 75?C
in the oven for 1 or 2 hours, drain, cool, and spawn, then re incubate.

Better look for a grow log or tec to follow in the faq.
but thats the jist of it.

fee, where would i be without you? Thanks for the info guys, I was just going to use the deer poo in my front yard. Instead of all that trouble i guess i'll just use horse poo and mix it with some cut up straw and then pasturize, like all the teks advise :smile:  Thanks again!

Damn! thats definitly not bad, well i guess the only way to find out is to give it a try. Thanks for the cool pics Ralph! I think i might mix the horse and deer poo 60/40 or something, and see how that works!
