Dehydrated Cow Manure
    #2324594 - 02/11/04 04:27 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

My question is regarding that store-bought dehydrated cow manure. I called the company and asked them if there was anything added to the manure and was informed that they added peat moss to avoid clumping. The stuff is 2% Nitrogen, 1% Available Phosphetic acid, and 1% Soluble Potas (K20). Has anyone ever used peat moss (dunno why you would) in their substrate, or have info on why or why not this poo would work???

btw, I am going to use a 60/40 Straw/Dung mix if that helps any.

make sure you sift the manure as it has stick and stuff in it and paturization will not work on the clumps and sticks

Sounds easy enough......I am assuming that the peat moss won't pose any threats as far as slow colinization and/or contamination are concerned.

peat is quite acidic. you may need to buffer the substrate. i'm thinking limewater. make sure you use a pH meter to test the plain substrate and then to adjust the pH up (if necessary). i would expect some complications. keep in mind that substrate becomes more and more acidic as the mycelium goes throughout it's life cycle (wastes).

i have used dehydrated cow poo
with nothing added.
I just bought a bag of it at the local greenhouse.
Very good to work with. just get rid of the sticks and
stones.
I don't know why people use composted
cow poo.
doesn't seem to work:(
peace,
zero
