Ive read all the FAQ's and read a few different things on popcorn..
I tried with 100% contamination...
i PC's the corn for hour and 15 min.... let cool and drain for half hour... then put in jars with lid and a piece of paper under the lid ( i think i need a filter disk??) covered in tin foil... and PC'd again for hour and 15 minutes..
heres where i think i went wrong.. i lifted the lids to innoculate..
where i should have went through the hole in the lid and through the paper... then coverd with band aid ..
I think ??
Anyone want to help me out here ? did i miss a step by step popcorn tek some where ?? i know i read about soaking the corn for 24 hrs... what do i do ??

Im not 100% sure on popcorn, but soak it for 12 hours, then pack the jars up 3.4th full and then put on lids(not jsut paper!) and loosen a little, then throw on some foil and PC for an hour.
Then tighen as soon as possible when done and voila....get polyfil or the filter disks for the lids--itsw way easy and cheap

You don?t need to PC twice. Just soak 24 hours, drain well (no drops falling), and PC for 90 minutes at 15 psi. The bigger the grains, the longer the soaking. You should make an inoculation hole in your lid and inoculate that way. If you are not doing a G2G transfer, you don?t need to open your jars.

I've had lots of success with popcorn. Simmer for 20 min, let soak overnight, let drain, load into jars 3/4 full, pc for 1hr, 1 small hole for knocking, after witch I cover with coffee filters and rubber bands. If you want to grow these as cakes, put 20% verm before you pc. The verm gives the mycellium something to hold together while dunking and such.

In addition to what everyone else said... rinse the hell out of your popcorn before draining. I tried popcorn once without rinsing and ended up with 100% contamination (there was a film that stuck to the sides that went to contams in like 4 days). Next time I followed the exact same procedure but gave the popcorn a good 5-10 minute rinse and ended up with 0% contamination.

I lift my lids to innoculate all the time - no problem. And I don't use a glovebox - just some Oust. I've worked with popcorn exclusively for months, since my rye source is no more. I bring to a boil, turn off, let sit overnight, return to boil, then down to simmer. When they get full (but right before bursting), I pull them off the heat and rinse well. Load my quarts 2/3 full, pc at 15 psi for 75 minutes, let cool overnight and knock up. I then case in tinfoil trays, but treat them as cakes after the first flush. With a teeny layer of casing on the bottom, and a handful mixed into the grain before casing, it all holds together by the time you've had a flush. I just dump a bunch of distilled water in the tin, cover with tinfoil and pop in the fridge for 10 hours. The "popcorn cakes" love it, and I'm getting 3 nice flushes before any contams. Oh yeah, I use the fiberfill stuff in my lids - 1 tuft through a hole dead center of the lid. I do drain very well, even setting the strainer on paper towels to draw out water from the bottom after it sits in the colander for an hour.

I just started rinsing my popcorn. Never did before and didn't have any contamination problems, but it is always better to err on the side of caution, so rinse well.
