Is this mycelium healthy?

***UPDATE*** Go to the next page to see the FINAL results of this attempt. I think it went very well. Thanks for all the help guys!
This was put into fruiting conditions about a week ago. At first it looked kind of fluffy but now it looks like it is matted down and clumped up in some spots. There is no smell other than an earthy one, the humidity is around 95-99%, temp about 72 with light for about 12 hours a day. Just wondering if it looks OK to a more experienced eye.

Dont bother monitoring humidity anymore, you dont need it.
It looks ok to me. Did you use a top layer of substrate or a casing?

Used the 50/50 verm and PM. It is about 1/2-3/4 inch thick on top of a little over an inch of colonized WBS. Wasn't sure if it looks OK since this is grow #1. Just wanted to make sure it was looking like it will fruit.
Also, I am just not really sure what to look for when it moves into the next stage. I have seen tons of pictures but honestly I thought I would have seen something by now since it's been about a week. I have read many places you want to fruit it when the myc pops up through the casing so I figured it would kind of shut down the expansion and move into pinning but that does not seem to be the case.

I really hope so. I will do my best to give progress reports because I hate finding threads that have a similar thing I am looking for and then it just ends with no resolution.

UPDATE: So it has been another 2 day and honestly it doesn't look much different. I really would have thought that something would have happened by now. At least a pin or two.
It still looks fine and smells like mushrooms and nothing else. It gets plenty of light and FAE as well as misting when it looks like it dries out a little. Do I just have a misunderstanding of how to initiate fruiting conditions?

Its been like 9 days right? I think you just have to wait a little longer, especially if this was WBS spawn from MS. I haven't done a mono yet, but some of my cakes fruit quickly, while others take a couple weeks. If I didn't see pins after 14+ days that is when I'd start to get worried. I don't have a ton of experience but IMHO this tray looks very nice! Be patient!

I see lots of FAE issues with that tray, look at how the mycelium is trying to move up off the surface. Got any pics of the setup, that would help immensely

This is the setup I have. I used something similar to things I found on some other sites. Tight poly on the bottom, loose on the top. A nice beading of water stays on the walls, the RH is high, and the temp is usually around 70. I have a fan going in the room as well. I have another box you can see in the edge on the pic but that is several days behind the one in question but the setup is similar. They are up on tall chairs right now to get some natural light. I don't know if I need to invest in an actual light but from what I have read natural light should work fine.

Natural light works great, I've actually never used artificial lights before. And based off the looks of your tray, I'd say you can loosen up that top poly a bit more. I like to scrunch it up into a small ball just big enough to "place" it gently in the hole, Then you'll be giving your tub max FAE without compromising the overall humidity inside the tub. And also, running a small fan adjacent to the tub will help boost FAE

So it has been a couple more days and I think I may have spotted some pin formation. I saw something that kind of resembled a mycelium covered piece of bird seed and was very curious so I plucked it out and it was very squishy and had a very pungent mushroom smell, not a bad smell in any way. So I started staring at the casing and then I began to see quite a few of these all over the top. The pictures I included are just a couple that were at a better angle to get a picture of. So someone experienced please let me know if my suspicions are correct and that these are in fact the humble beginnings of a mushroom.

Yea you got pins right inthe middle the mycelium gets kinda white crusty ime right before pins happen just like yours just did you just got give it time. But know you know what to look for through alittle experince. Pretty cool

I would make bigger holes if I were you, 1.5-2.5 inches.. Im not sure what size I use off hand.
Congrats on your pins!

So I just wanted to keep the thread updated so people such as myself looking into this stuff don't get left hanging not knowing whether or not things worked out. So I took a pic of the tiny pins on 5/23 and again about 12 hours later and I was very surprised by the difference that can make. I am just so proud of my babies. They are growing up so fast.

This reminds me of when I used to case grains in lasagna trays too
What did you use for substrate? Did you consider expanding your tubs holes some?

I realized at the time that the holes were small. I have a lot of tools and I am kind of picky with stuff like this so I want actual circular holes, not what I would be able to manage with a razor, so I went with what I had. I plan on getting a 1 1/2 to 2 inch hole saw bit to get nice neat cuts. I used WBS to colonize and 50/50 to case.
