Psilocybe Cubensis "South American" on Hominey

Substrate - 4 quarts of Hominey Strain - South American Multispore inoculation Casing - 100% Coir
Primordia - 10 days after birthing
Pins - day 11
Day 12
Day 13
Day 14
Later that evening.
I know that this was a weak first flush. I'll blame it on the multispore inoculation. 6 petri dishes are being prepped for cloning the fastest and most prolific clump of mushrooms for use on straw/manure. Peace folks!

Not bad man. how did you sterilize? I think some verm in the mix would have helped a bit.

not bad at all. Those are some pretty mushies for sure. They kinda resemble the Florida+ as far as how the caps look.

Pretty shrooms!
Could you explain a bit more on the substrate prep?

Hominey is corn that's been soaked in lye and had their husks removed. Nasty stuff :P unless it's further processed, such as into grits.

Hominey tastes like ass IMO. However, It can be used as a cheap substrate that only requires a water wash for prep. You can buy it at Walmart in 6lb cans.
My gal washed the hominey to remove the salt/sodium. She put a few tablespoons of dry verm at the bottom of the jar and loaded the hominey on top. PC'd for 1 hour at 15psi. Innoculated w/ agar from multispore. After three days, she shook the jar to evenly distribute the verm that was used to soak up excess H2O.
Not bad man. how did you sterilize? I think some verm in the mix would have helped a bit.
My gal was told the same thing (about adding verm to the coir) and will do so next time. She microwaved the coir for 5 minutes before casing.
Thanks guys.

Fuck that! I love grits!!!!! So do the shrooms, apparently.
So, you just simply rinse the hominey then PC? Details, man.... details!

This flush turned out much heavier than expected. The mushrooms were solid and meaty. If you want to see a write up on Hominy, check out Joe Millionaire's Hominy Prep

Nice grow, man.
Have you found that straight coir produces better than a coir/verm mix?

no. my gal is doing coir/verm mix now. When she cased for the 1st flush, she didn't know any better. oops. the problem seems to be that the mycelium just rips through the pure Coir like a freight train. Despite what some people say, coir does have some nutritive value. the added verm balances it nicely.

Looks great! Just picked up some coir today, trying a coir/verm mix next time too... seems to work. Good luck =)

my gal was using 100% verm but it was small particle so it choked the mycelium. the added coir seems to do the trick!

thanks eatyu. We're looking for an isolate. We didn't want to waste our time w/ straw/manure before we found one.
here is a new pic. enjoy!

Nothing like Eatyualives buckets, but a couple of 5 inchers that look like they have a day or two left. It's a pretty crappy pinset. Definately gonna clone and spawn to a straw bucket.
