Terence Mckenna's Novelty: What would he say today?
    #2321755 - 02/10/04 04:12 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

Last year I was really into Terence Mckenna. I listened to almost all the recordings at mckenna.psychedelic-library.com, and read True Hallucinations and The Invisible Landscape. Terence was formulating his novelty/2012 theory from 1971 up until he started to get sick, I assume, in 1999 or 2000. Has anyone been carrying the torch? What would terence say about the world of 2004, in terms of the timewave? Just curious to see if things are panning out the way he would have predicted.

Who cares what Mckenna would think... he's a scam artist.
Don't get pissed at me just yet, wait until 2012... THEN come back and tell me I was wrong.

Peace.

Even if 2012 came and went with nothing happening, McKenna's teachings would still be just as valid. The Eschaton was only a small part of all he had to say.

who cares about what you think?he wasn't a scam artist.
don't get pissed at me just yet,go listen or read about his 'time wave theory' which is based on a very old 'i ching' calender system and very complex mathematical system...THEN come back, and we can discuss...

he would say 'you see i'm right, ozone hole getting bigger, oceans getting dirtier,we're still destroying nature...technology goes faster faster, nature goes down down...world gets in to chaos faster faster, terrorism(i want to mension u.s.a. is probably the biggest factor of rising terrorism)is rising, faschism is rising, rasicm rising' so forth and so on...'

Mckenna was anything but a scam artist. Mistaken perhaps, but not a scam artist. I've heard later recordings of his raps in which he concedes that the timewave is really more of a personal observation than the gospel truth.

Don't be so quick to judge.

Terence Mckenna has said don't follow his program, start your own. He encourages people to think for themselves. He also says as to beleive in anything is the death to intelligence.

What... you think I haven't? Though it's been awhile since I read any of it (4+ years), it's still a bunch of hoohah. Whatever... tempus ad lucem ducit veritatem.

You flat out think that he is a scam artist?! Terence Mckenna was a genius thinker with so much to give to our society. Just because the timewave zero theory may not be factual, or fitting to your opinions, but doesn't mean he is a scam artist! Terence Mckenna has researched so much intriguing stuff, and further helped the preservation of soon to be distinct plants (psychoactive plants), that he really doesn't deserve to be called that.

I think you actually have to scam people in order to be called a scam artist...

Alice came to a fork in the road.  "Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

Thats alright...I can tell you you are wrong now! You make Mckenna sound like some kind of cult leader who made millions out of giving a prophecy related to 2012 whereas he actually said it was just ideas and he could easily be wrong. Thats not scamming.

"I think you actually have to scam people in order to be called a scam artist..."

Well he did sell a lot of books.... But I don't say he's a scam artist at all - I think he simply wanted people to fucking THINK and look around and dissolve their boundaries and think about new lifestyles.

I don't think he really had much faith in the timewave, he just wanted a "mathematical" set of rules to go along with Novelty Theory, his crowned jewel.

I don't think Novelty can ever be disproven, it will only look more and more clear as things get more and more novel faster and faster.

I think he chose 2012 because he wanted people to start thinking NOW - I feel this is why a lot of people claim "something HUGE" is going to happen "very SOON" because it gets people off their asses...... sometimes.

I think there is no doubt though that he was one of the greatest thinkers in recent times, even if he played a money-making clown's role at the same time

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
