That thing is beautiful. I couldn't imagine just eating the whole thing. Wait, that's exactly what I'm doing.
What do you guys usually do with shrooms that big? Eat is solo for an adventure or save it as novelty? What variety is that?

How is that working for you? Swabs that is. Can you suggest a tek?

I've never grown from a swab.
Tek?
Uh, take a swab, swab the gills.
I don't see any way that a swab will be clean. Agar is a must.

grow out pasty plates until they fruit and the caps will deposit spores on the sides on the plate and you can swab those up. pretty clean. cleaner than swabbing gills, id say.

How can you not see how a swab could be clean? It comes out the sleeve sterile, you swipe sterile spores from an invitro fruit, then you swipe it to agar. Only non-sterility there depends on technique.

So I just moved out to the big city and cultivation has kinda been on the backburner for me while I was looking for a new job. Besides going to the local hydroponics shop and spawning a few tubs, most of the cultivation lab work has been getting done by my girlfriend.
We let a lot of pastyplates go during the move. They matured and never got used. Some of them we took clones from nice fruits but a lot of them just turned out looking like this.

I feel bad for them sometimes knowing their entire existence was suffocation inside a tiny prison.

If you have an invitro fruit, isn't swabbing the gills just as clean as swabbing the side of the container?
I meant that I see now way of taking clean swabs from a regular grow. That fruit I posted obviously didn't grow invitro. Invitro fruits are the best for getting clean prints/swabs.

Rabbit I am a huge advocate of sterile swabs. They come in packs of a thousand. Individually wrapped pairs of swabs make for the best no-flaming sterile teks.
The Tiger Drop tek mentions them specifically. I grew for over a year, never using a scalpel. I just took really careful swabs and grew from spores on agar. No transfers.
Swabs rock.

I've done that but not so extensively. It's handy if you don't feel like fucking with flame sterilizing.

Swabs rock.
I'm assuming you used invitro fruits. Or did you use prints that you made by breaking veils in a SAB?

Nope. Just regular prints.
But my prints are taken pretty clean. When I unravel my foil I remove the first 6 inches or so since it's been exposed to open air. I then Pull off a fresh sheet and then immediately place sanitized half pint jars upside down all over it. I remove the cap from the fruit and immediately move it to the shmuvbox and place a 1/2 pint wide mouth jar over the cap. This makes a nice little 'still air' chamber for the spores to fall in.
Spore prints can be taken pretty cleanly. It's not sterile but I've had high success rates from swabs.
I'd like to think it's because I take good prints but I've swabbed prints from other people too and I've had good success.
If it didn't work then spore syringes wouldn't work.

Invitro fruit>swab>save... Sounds doable, I am wondering how many of you guys have kept PE or whatever poor spore mushroom around successfully. I have PEU, I'd like to think that swabbing will keep him around without having to buy another syringe ever again. I asked if there was a tek you used because a lot of times in teks they tell what the extent of what the procedure can be, or sometimes little helpful tid bits that you might not think of. It does sound simple enough.
I do recall people sterilizing qtips for the same purpose.

My first go at Panoleus Cyanescens Hawaiian - grain master looking clean. I didn't do any agar isolation work here just MS to see if I get anything worth cloning ...

I'm excited I hear it is a nice trip...

Hello everyone, I've posted on here before showing some of my brf cake growth. Since then most of my cakes made it through and I waited 8 days from full colonization to introduce the cakes in to my sgfc after a 24 hour cold water dunk. Although there were no invitro pins, I was afraid of waiting too long. Since then I have misted and fanned the chamber very frequently but have yet to see any verifiable pins. Anyone have any thoughts on the growth on these cakes? Also as a bonus, I left a few jars to see If they would pin invitro and I had one confirmed this morning. Also if it helps these are amazonian strain. I look forward to any advice and thanks in advance
