Looks great, but I wonder if its going to have that attack/defense feel, or something along the lines of farmville. Imo, cartoony games gives the game more aspect, hense the name "video game".

Hoping it should still be fine, so long as the mechanics hold up.
Normally do not play zoomed as far in as the screenshots, so it will hopefully be less impacting on a wider view. Civ never had hyper realistic graphics by any stretch, but this just feels a little more colorful than I am used to.

Maybe, but by the looks of it, its all up to if the animations are fluent or not. It would be badass if the environment moves, like the water, or trees, but my biggest concern is how will them soldier looking things move around, and look at them, they are giants.

3 was the best. Can't even count how much time I've wasted on that game. I still download a copy on my computers and play it when I bored.

The cities always expanded and we're diversified for what they were good at and the terrain around them. 4 and 5 dumbed them way down. Play civ 3 than we can talk.

Have been following updates on this off and on for a while now. Some of my concerns may have been assuaged in seeing the new cities in action. They are back on Civ 5's hex-by-hex expansion for culture, but the change now is that every tile around the city also doubles as a building space -- rather than just placing farms/mines/income generation hexes have to be spent on creation of buildings and wonders. If a city wants to build the Pyramids, they need to have a Desert or Flood Plains hex in their cultural borders for it to occupy. Similarly districts have to be set down to create buildings. An arts district, science district, and industrial district all each eat up a tile to be able to support building things like amphitheaters or libraries.
The graphics look better in action, and a bit more eye-catching rather than straight cartoon, but the leaders still are pretty cartoony.
Aztec civilization is apparently the pre-order bonus. This would make me bitter, but they apparently will be released as a free DLC for everyone else later as well. Can live with waiting a couple months after launch to play as Monty.
Not going to link all the individual Civilization previews they are doing, but their E3 presentation was pretty nicely succinct and showed some of the features in action.

my major concern is that Sean Bean is doing the narration. Will he get to the classical era, say "Et tu, Brute?" Then no more narration.

So, with a few more weeks to release, they have apparently sent out early access copies to a number of youtube channels. Various Let's Plays all over the place.
It is nice to see the actual progression of the game and how dynamics likes the changes to workers and addition of city districts impacts things.
Despite my earlier complaints about graphics, the more recent footage is quite nice, particularly with the time of day system and cities lighting up at night.
Am looking quite forward to this, still deciding between Scythia and Norway as my first play through, but have some time.

Am feeling cautiously optimistic about this one. Was not fond of Civ 5 when it released, stuck with Civ 4 until Civ 5 got its expansion packs to flesh it out. Was quite pleased with Civ 5 after it got all the DLC though. Civ 6 seems to be launching in a more complete fashion. The devs have been pretty good at keeping in touch with the playerbase, and getting a good look at the game from various let's plays has done wonders to alleviate my lingering concerns.
It is good to see them reach backwards in the series, such as bringing back multiple leader options for civilizations. The variation with city districts and adjacency bonuses interests me quite a bit, being able to lay out cities so they sort of sprawl over the countryside seems like it is going to be fun. Each city gets its own sort of character to it based on how the districts and wonders are laid out.
Just a few more days to go.

I don't remember if Civ 3 or 4 was my last one. I was an addict. I guess that's when I stayed home instead of going out drinking. The graphics got better, but some aspects of the game I wasn't in with.
I remember when I used win I would go with communism as my modern form of govt. cause it was easier. You didn't have worry much about what the public thought. Generally I won by obliterating the opposition, but I guess in the last version you had to go to space to Alpha Centauri.
When I used to do this 5 nights a week, instead of relative alcoholism, I had Civilization dreams, frequently. I never put it on automatic. I moved, or didn't every piece every turn. I don't know why? It seems like a neurotic obsession now. I got my younger brother into it, and he would give newer versions for Christmas, but he played automatic.
When I had Civ. dreams they were they weren't good or bad dreams, they were just the most boring dreams ever. For hours I saw those octagons moving in slow motion.

Have completed two games now, both as Scythia.
Not sure what is going wrong, but it seems like Culture victory is too easy to reach. Was not making any effort (to my knowledge) to win a Culture victory either time, and ended up getting it both. Each time was also just a few turns before completion of the victory condition I was working on (had 1-2 more cities to convert for Religious victory in first game; had 5 turns left on my last spaceship piece on the second).
Aside from that, various small nitpicks about the game, such as not being able to rename civilizations or cities. Otherwise quite pleased though.
Plays a lot like Civ 5, but the new wonders and districts add a feeling of a city-builder to it. Also fond of the military game now -- it's still similar to Civ 5 but a bit more slowed down due to movement changes; the slightly increased variation of units with support units is what sells it to me.
Pretty satisfied -- it is fun watching my civilization go from humble beginnings as a village into a bustling metropolis in the Information era. Also enjoy how, even playing as the same civilization multiple times, the city system and map layout can change city design and build priorities.

My game wouldn't load so I gave up and reinstalled the whole game. Then I found that all I had to do was turn of Windows Defender. I lost my save and now I'm playing as Germany and I've been in like a 500 year battle with Sumeria

Ouch. Civ is a long game to lose a save for. Dx
Have found that the AI seems to be more aggressive this time around. In my first game, Teddy Roosevelt started off declaring a friendship with me early on, then turned around about 20 turns later and tried attacking me with a horde of warriors and scouts before he had even started to tech up. After fighting him back with Scythia's ridiculously powerful horse archer army, conquered his cities and decided to take over the rest of the continent as a preemptive means of self-defense.

so are people happy with this now that it has been out for awhile. i watched a little streaming and it seems a little tedious?
i love 4x style stuff i just not sure the playstyle of this one is as exciting as i might be looking for.
i also have several other games to keep me occupied with currently. probably why i am being so apprehensive.

My Steam has 109 hours clocked from 3 complete games and a bunch of dicking around. Have moved over to Skyrim Special Edition for a bit just to see how Bethesda did with it, then probably going back to Civ.
The learning curve going from Civ 5 to Civ 6 is a little steep, and it has taken me a few games to get into properly setting up districts, learning the new Wonders, and stuff -- there are a lot more things to consider now in terms of city placement and specialization that was kind of slow to learn but is starting to feel more natural. Find the mid-game to be far more interesting than Civ 5, because consolidating an Empire is a more involved process than just queuing up a bunch of buildings. The win conditions feel a bit less compelling; not sure why -- the Space Race launch animations are among my favourites, but launching the individual pieces does not feel quite as fulfilling. Think the issue may be that late-game Science and Culture generation can get so high that the tech tree and civics tree basically get entirely cleared out really quickly -- Civ 5 had gotten the Brave New World DLC that really slowed down endgame and made it feel more like a race, Civ 6 just has me breezing through the techs and civics. Alternatively, it may be that the Eureka and Inspiration system is too strong -- though it is kind of interesting (basically two trees of mini "quests" to buff Science and Culture), it gets really easy to sort of cheese it by half-researching a bunch of techs while working on triggering their boosts to finish them. Not sure how the trees have been balanced to accommodate, but doing the various boosts seems to really propel me ahead of the AI (which, presumably, does not actively pursue boosts so much as casually generates a handful of them through regular play).
Turns may take a bit longer now for people who are not used to micromanaging their empire, as the availability of automation has decreased quite a bit.
It is still pretty slow-paced by design -- have not even braved a Marathon game yet. Time still seems to disappear while playing though.
Watched a number of Let's Plays before release, but find the game far more fun to get my hands on and play. Part of that is also my propensity to get mad with people making strategic decisions I don't agree with.
Overall pretty happy with it; feels far better than Civ 5 felt at launch, but still suffers somewhat when compared to an experience with full DLCs.
If you feel on the fence about it, will likely be updating this thread with my thoughts as DLCs release. Waiting on picking up a Civ game is not all that bad, as they tend to improve over time. Have been enjoying my time with it though.

Barbs are super brutal in this one; not just to the player but also to AI Civs. Have had barbs break apart my economy by pillaging districts, and have seen them wipe AI cities off the map.
My initial approach to defending was to guard my borders with a bunch of cavalry -- killing the Scouts basically keeps them from attacking/makes them focus on the AI civs instead. Scouts have to see your city and make it back to their camp before barbs will attack a city at all.
Tried a game as Gilgamesh after you mentioned them the other time -- he gets a quite significant bonus from popping barb camps, so made a few small squads and just destroyed camps as quickly as possible as soon as they popped up.
Second option makes more gold, and as Gilgamesh it also means a bunch of bonus population, technology boosts, unit experience.
By the Information Era on my earlier games, barbs were messing me up with Anti-Tank Guns, so they really don't seem to let up.
Though, also consider having been attacked so aggressively in the first games as being a really nice learning opportunity -- it taught me that pillaging districts is amazingly powerful. Civ 4, late game pillaging could cripple an enemy economy, but Civ 5 just needed workers to repair. Civ 6, workers repair tile improvements quickly and for free, but districts have to be repaired one by one and building by building by the city center. If a Civ is too far away to reliably try conquering cities, can totally topple an enemy empire by pillaging everything they have (which gives some nice bonuses for each pillage).

I figured I'd just ask here instead of making a thread specifically for it, hopefully someone sees it..
Anyways how the hell do you offensively kill enemy air fighters? I can't seem to make my own fighter jets engage theirs and they are standing in the way of my bombers (which in this game is my main city killer) I've had several very long games and never ran into this problem because AI never really seems to bother with air units but they did this time and the AI is smart enough to redeploy their jets when I decide to start bombing another of their (unguarded) cities first . I guess it's kinda cool the AI isn't totally stupid (like seriously, they had all their jets on the one city I was focusing on and the second I targeted a second city with the bombers they spread the jets out to all their cities on the front, not just relocating them to the new city I bombed lol) but it's frustrating me now.
I also can't seem to target their airfield with ground units/bombardment.
Did they just leave out any way to offensively deal with an enemies jets in this game?
I'll probably have already wiped this country from the map by the time someone has an answer but it'd be nice to know for the future. Not just for future games but I have a couple of other very large/powerful nations to target (I'm using one of those giant map mods and have no turn limit set, I'm going for a planet united under the Brazilian flag ) in the future and I know they have planes as well.
P.S. Thermonuclear weapons are OP as fuck . I try not to resort to them because of the contamination and when you get to that point in the game, 20 turns is a long damn time, but just firing one into the heart of their country cripples them to the point they can't really do much to save themselves. I use them on very large nations because by the time I get to the heartland the contamination won't be an issue. 3,000 military power? Let's go ahead and knock that down to about 750 with one click .

Unfortunately, have no clue with regards to potential to attack air units; have run into the same issue as you with AI not building air units. My next game may be different though, they apparently patched some various AI matters recently.
Quote:
Adjusted AI victory condition focus to increase their competitiveness in Science and Tourism. Adjusted AI understanding of declared friendship. Adjusted the AI approach to beginning and ending a war based on potential gain and loss. Increased AI competitiveness in building a more advanced military. Increased AI usage of Inquisitors. Especially Phillip. Increased AI value of upgrading units. Increased AI use of Settler escorts. Tuned AI usage of units that cannot move and shoot, like Catapults. Tuned AI city and unit build planning. Improved the ability of city-states to maintain a strong military.
https://civilization.com/news/entries/civilization-vi-fall-2016-update-now-live
Air units may be covered under the city and unit build planning.
Poking into it on reddit the best I could find was a reference that ranged units may be able to bombard deployed air units -- poster said his planes were either attacked by a city or a field cannon.
For the airfield, is it possible to move on top of it and pillage rather than make an attack? Think all tile improvements and districts function in that matter.
And yeah, nukes are ridiculous by the time they show up in game. Had France declare war on me, so fired two nukes into their territory and they went into full retreat until peace could be declared.

Well even if you lose the airfield, they can still have one fighter on a city (which, without a way to deal with them is more than enough to take down plenty of bombers). I found a round about way to deal with the issue. Link Mobile Sam with whatever melee units you use to capture the city, and just park them all around the city center. The jet will still attack your bombers so you need enough of them to do enough attack runs back to back (drawing the jet out every time) so that you can kill the jet with your sam and NOT lose your bombers in the process. I haven't lost one yet but it seems like if you do two runs without taking down the jet, your bombers will die on the second run because the jet seems to take off more than half the bombers HP. From memory it takes about 5-6 times of the jet being attacked before it's dead, so you need about 8 bombers just to be safe. Pretty stupid way of having to deal with it, honestly. The only appeal for using the bombers is their ridiculous range, instead of having to relocate (or just having a massive bombardment army at your disposal) you can just hammer away at city after city until your ground units can capture, the modern tanks have really good range so bombers+modern tanks make a really great city capture team.
I've never really used the rapid deployment thing (I honestly only really noticed it on this game) so I may just revert back to a large ground bombardment force and plan my attack runs better so that I can just transfer them from airfield to airfield.
I however won't be uniting the planet under the Brazilian flag. I've reached the point where turns were taking like 5 minutes to process and eventually I couldn't declare war without the game freezing and crashing anymore. I tried reloading a bunch of times but always the same thing. I just wanted to do it for completion's sake, I'd already taken over half the entire map and destroyed like 8 other countries. I had a giant country with nothing to spend production on but units . I was an unstoppable war machine. Even if they started trying to nuke me, they wouldn't' be able to get far enough into the heartland to wipe me out before I wiped out their armies and could rebuild. Plus I had like 20 thermo nukes at my disposal. Anyone who tried to take me on would be met with complete annihilation.
I'm playing on emperor or whatever. I wish there was a better way to make things difficult for me rather than just give the AI a handicap bonus, they should play smarter, take (or try to) key cities that would cripple me, produce units that counter what I'm using, form alliances that is more than just an "I like you" token, like force me to fight a war on two fronts. Stuff like that.
I think this one is far more addicting than 5 was. First few nights I had it, I lost track of time like I haven't done since the days of Mario Kart being new and you had sleep overs. Start playing and before you know it, sun is coming up, your hands are all cramped up and your eyes burn.

The ones based in cities would certainly be more of an issue; was able to use based bombers and fighters to pretty devastating effect in 5 as well. Since sending a bomber against the city triggers the fighter to try and intercept, is it possible that targeting the city with a fighter first would trigger them to dogfight? Would think that fighters could be deployed to intercept in place of the Sam units, but it seems really strange that they cannot trigger combat with each other.
Rebasing units via airports has always been quite powerful, particularly if it is possible to get even just a basic outpost set up on a separate continent and then move land armies back and forth quickly.
The AI as difficulty scales certainly is still a bit disappointing; think that is part of the appeal of multiplayer games, but was never any good at them. Take a long time to think and process things, and trying to manage anything on a clock just has my brain fizzle out. The general AI seems to function a bit better than before though, or at least the agenda system seems to have them interact with the player and each other in a more sensible way, but it is still a big complex game and the AI still responds to really simple cues.
There is always an interesting way to work with the mechanics though, and enjoy that my games feel more varied from play to play than they did in 5. There is a lot more of a sense of playing to the map layout, and think that hooks me more than anything. Have been quite fond of watching how the maps change over time as cities and empires swap hands, and now with the district layouts it feels like each of the AIs has a more lasting impact.

Nope, your jet just attacks the city and the enemy jet attacks your jet.
And yeah I'm not much for multiplayer in strategy games. Especially something like Civ, it doesn't really suit my play style at all. I mostly like to build my empire up and start maxing out all my cities before I start pumping out units and going on conquest. In my experience, if you don't build a giant army right off the bat and attack them before they attack you, you've already lost.

With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way. I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today. Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. Thread resurrection.
Apparently my Steam updated Civ 6 today, but I did not catch that it was the first microdlc.
As was able to be gleaned from the trailer, when the winged hussar arrived, the first update is Poland.
And since they have been given the overpowered hussars again (with the same forces-enemy-to-withdraw-after-combat bonus from Civ 5) am probably going to jump into a new game and play as them soon.
Am looking forward to having access to a culture bomb again, but will probably end up riding around with a huge cavalry army like with Scythia, just cuz winged hussars.

New DLC Civilization announced, It's Australia
The Outback Station caters a little too much to some of my preferred methods of play but they should serve well on an Islands map
People seem to be complaining that lesser-known candidates are being chosen for DLC packs, but it seems to make sense to me because it facilitates dropping bigger-names into the expansion packs, when they come
They have also (finally) announced that the formal mod system through Steam Workshop will be offered at the same time

Persia announced under the leadership of Cyrus
Think what interests me most about this is his bonuses to declaring surprise wars, aside from how that potentially impacts player play styles, it also holds implications for how they seem to want the AI to function after the DLC releases Cyrus and Tomyris (Scythia) historically warred and their unique/AI bonuses directly contrast each other meaning the computer will be 'motivated' to declare wars that specifically trigger Tomyris' AI resentment of surprise wars
Playstyle does not seem fantastic for me personally, as most frequently make efforts war early and wipe out AI before meeting too many other civs in order to get an early landspace advantage without incurring penalties anyway like the unique tile improvement tho

Alexander the Great being added in under a new civ of Macedon in the same DLC pack
And just in case he was not enough of a jerk in previous titles, now he gets a unique bonus that makes it more easy for him to war than any other civs

Think the more likely candidate is that they have not yet added it. World Congress was added by one of 5's major content packs, Brave New World
At launch, the Religious Victory was their substitute for the World Congress the premise seems to have been that the goal is to keep diplomatic ties effective to spread religion, similarly the World Congress had a significant impact in 5 by allowing declaration of a World Religion that increased the ability to win a culture victory
Apparently the season pass tied to the the Deluxe edition only carries up to this Persia/Macedon DLC so kind of presuming they will gear up and do an actual expansion pack next, since they will likely charge for it given that they went about adding Australia under John Curtin, though the Aborigines have been popular among modders of past games, kind of makes me think they plan some sort of World War expansion for the game that hopefully adds a sort of United Nations system, and potentially improves industrial and modern era warring though part of that is also just my speculation based on the aerial combat in the trailer and that after teasing a Winged Hussar in the trailer, they turned around and dropped Poland

Nice.
Ya. There are some neat parts about VI.
I like how you can choose where to build wonders, libraries, and etc..
Building libraries next to the mountains for extra science is nice.
On another note, I am still trying to get used to the AI for VI. I am not sure if it's better or worse than V.
I always thought CIV should have really invested in AI. Since they use points or frequencies, one should be able to ASK them, "Why?" And then make another remark for more points in anger or friendship.
They need to get on that. More complex AI.

Personally think of the AI as both better and worse than 5, like that they made the system transparent through diplomacy, being able to see what motivates the AI helps to figure out why they are doing what they are doing, or why they are hung up on hating another AI Civ
being able to ask them Why is really an immersion/interface factor that they totally should work on, at present it is possible to (like 5) go in and see exact numerical representations of how much each action is causing that civ to like or dislike the player, but that's just a messy way of displaying it, when they could use some interface tweaks to convey the same information via conversation
the part that drives me a little nuts about their new system is the random generated traits Paranoid as a trait seems to be the most game-breaking on an AI Had a paranoid China spawn that would do nothing but build great wall improvements on every available hex and had a Cleopatra spawn who loved me because her default AI bonus is she tries to befriend people with large militaries but she was paranoid, so her random trait meant she was afraid of anyone who had a large military so she would compliment me on the size and impressiveness of my military, referring to me as worthy of her attention then would turn around and immediately cry that my military is too large and freaks her out come to think of it, on that playthrough she kind of reminded me of some of my exes...
Do have hopes over the long-term though, if they keep having contrasting AI bonuses like with Cyrus and Tomyris one of the big challenges of AI is to get it to more fully interact with its own digital world but by making AIs effectively trigger each other's traits, it effectively forces the AIs to more fully interact with the world it could turn out genius, or they could be overreaching and it will collapse more than it succeeds am enjoying experimenting with the way it 'thinks' in different scenarios either way

Have to on higher difficulty levels. God, just reading this I feel like playing again at King level which I always play on now and have not beat even with over 550 hours played on Steam. Trying to wait till February when the new expansion comes out. I seriously bought a gaming laptop instead of a console, which I bought a month ago, for this game.
As I have played it since the 2nd one. Was interesting to have someone post about the first one. Am old, but not that old.

Am also mostly trying to wait for the new expansion, but recently did a space race victory as the Cree just to scratch the civ itch am looking forward to a number of the mechanical changes and the natural disasters; was trying to play my most recent round with an avoidance of deforestation to prepare for the global warming mechanic
this week's civ announcement/preview is for the Maori
Really interesting change to the early game, starting out at sea with tech bonuses rather than being able to found in place and start building from turn 1 do not see myself playing as them too early on after release tho

Always suck when I start on a ocean ship space/tile. They said they fixed it, I am just glad they updated the main menu to restart where one feels like they have a good chance. Near a mountain and food and machinery.
This will be interesting. This expansion. Looking forward to it but will see the reviews on it. Think it will be good though.

Yeah, World Congress was a big aspect of play in Civ 5 that went missing in 6 so it is nice to have it back
have run modded Canada in Civ 5, but in Civ 6 my capital city is always renamed 'Canadaville' it is nice to see my country get representation from the publisher rather than just mods tho Russia is honestly likely still better for my overall playstyle, like building faith and playing religious and Canada does not really get that angle
also the inability to declare surprise wars will totally screw over my whimsical warpaths in the early game

Stream of play as Canada
gives some insights into use of the World Congress, new rock band units, some visuals of natural disasters and counters (ie: using a dam to block river floods)
World Congress as a way to send migrants to or from different civs and mess with their loyalty rock bands as a function of faith interests me for playing religion-heavy but not actually pursuing the religious victory -- good adaptation of faith being applied toward Diplomatic victory

That is prolly why they gave Canada bonuses to generation of diplomatic favour for the World Congress update a good portion of the playstyle is likely going to be manipulating the AI against one another through friendly favour trades as opposed to getting into the nitty-gritty yourself, invite Teddy Roosevelt in and let him fight the war for you

Never got why in the new one is only Teddy Bear. Founder of our National Parks. Glad for him. Can we destroy Mexico and further down already. Such a great place to go visit.
But it is all on American drug abuse. Right. Let us go to Juarez! Sounds like fun, who wants to make a travel plan? I have been to Ensenada and in between. How fucked up is it? Guess they will just keep Spain and Catholics to fuck Native Americans and turn it into the cesspool it is. Third world countries and value of life is nothing.
There is a reason they make no Mexican leader as well.

The National Parks prolly play a role in their leader choice, they seem to have wanted to have Parks be fairly significant for the tourism game that is also part of what makes the Canada and US AI compliments interesting; Canada gets bonuses when helping defend in US lands because US AI is programmed to prioritize parks
would not be surprised to see a second US leader implemented with different bonuses and AI, similar to how they went back and added a second for India there is a number of weeks between now and launch, and if they are announcing a new leader each week that seems like a lot of new Civilizations if they were to go that route + there is the whole thing with the Rough Rider unit specifically being tagged as a US unit "when Theodore Roosevelt is leading" that may suggest they have intent to program another leader in with a different unique unit included
but yeah, Aztec civ sits over the realm of modern Mexico similarly they chose a First Nations Cree leader which covers Western Canada on the True Start Earth map setup

This week marks the return of the Inca
like that they made a civ that benefits from mountain tiles have had some interesting games with really well-formed defensive mountain ranges it will also be interesting to be able to tunnel through them -- in Civ 5, Carthage could do something similar by building roads through mountain ranges

I'm glad you are another civ fanatic.
I am a huge 5 fan, but didn't play 6 due to lack of the world Congress. Now that they brought back the Congress, I want to get into 6, but I need a new computer.
5 runs perfect, but 6 doesn't do well for me.
I decided to hold off on the computer and bought the now outdated x box 360 and a shit ton of games. I have been getting all my games for $2.99 - $10.00.
Hah, they even made a civ for 360, but it's an insult to the civ series. It was watered down crap.
Anyways, how is the new world Congress? Fun?

I kind of became upset how they made the leader choice for every country (at least in 5) one sex. I liked civ 2 when you could pick male or female and it would adjust the name of the leader for you.

unfortunately no, 3 was my first exposure to the series but 4 was when it became the excess of thousand hour obsession got into 5 late; played a bit when it came out but the change to hexes and single-spot culture growth from 4 was a sour spot combat did become more strategic by spreading units back out from 4's doom stacks tho but only ever went back close to before 6 was announced and put in about 500 hours
mostly like having a bunch of female leaders as potential AI tho more likely to give them favourable trades, join them for wars, and make alliances have had a number of my games effectively devolve into girls vs. guys through careful AI manipulation am sexist as hell in playing, but was inspired to it by an achievement unlocked as Poundmakeer in my first game on the previous expansion they briefly had a personality trait in game where leaders would be sexist and it popped up on Gilgamesh (already preprogrammed to favour his friends) in my game so he wanted to be my friend on Poundmaker from being the awesome guy with dreadlocks, and kept throwing tantrums over female leaders unlocked an achievement tied to having a level 3 alliance with Gilgamesh called Bromance since then, like to make a league of powerful ladies to run the world
so the World Congress update will help that -- maybe we can lock down Mali so they don't turn the world into a desert for their bonuses

no, they patched it out of the traits list for the first patch after rise and fall guessing it caused 'controversy' or something -- only ever saw the patch notes where they mentioned the personality traits had been removed to my comprehension there was a matching trait for attraction to the opposite sex and discrimination against same sex leaders it may have been associated with Cleopatra in order to make her more lusty towards the male AI?
if they had not made a point of going back and removing the personality agendas (and thus breaking my archived saves from that playthrough) may no have even adopted the tendency for myself

Seriously is the main reason I bought this laptop so I could play Civ. Since the second one came out. Spent over a hundred and am happy for some more that isn't shit but adds to the gameplay.
I love this game yet I do my research.

Just bought it. Going on a Winter vacation for a week, and when I get back, all ready to play. For some reason I always play Roosevelt, I guess because I talk and have socialized with so many people over the world.
Is amusing to me that, I am an American! People rip on it and others like it, the culture. But to extend it to a computer game, is inane yet I have over 700 hours on Steam and I have never played another leader and country. Not that I am some nationalist Trump idiot. I just feel like it is being myself. But it is just a game. Blah.
When I get back over the next two months will be over 1000 hours. That is strategy, that is like chess to me the Civ games over time and started with Civ 2 and everyone since.
Reminds me of the movie where Leonardo goes overseas and the scene of where people travel and do the same things they do at home. All these people traveling and when they arrive, they sit and watch t.v. The character sees how dumb that is. Why pay so much money to travel and just play games and such? He does have one thing right. When traveling, drink a lot. Makes the flight and inconviences and boredom with time fly by.

Have not actually done a run as Teddy yet his bonuses are all-around solid for my playstyle but have not ticked him off on my list yet he's been a good ally in a few games tho working through everyone, but typically tending to do multi-plays as Scythia and Indonesia
have been watching a bit of a Canada let's play since Firaxis sent out an early build of the expansion to a bunch of youtubers
used to travel back and forth across Canada in University, did not drink in the airports, even when getting stormed into Toronto for Christmas one year, but did have a laptop for all my notes and assignments for class and spent hours in terminals and on planes playing civ 4

Lol. Canada. The world imperialists. But I get what you are saying. Every time I think of Canada I think of South Park. So polite. Fuck you buddy! Fucky you pal! I'm not your pal, buddy. I'm not your friend pal.
Trying to get how cities expand on their own for the DLC. Time will tell. So fuck you buddy, no fuck you pal. Take over the world as Canada. Just a joke, sense of good will. I like the Canadians yet in real life they are servants to the U.S military industrial complex.
I mean what is their bonus? Friendliness, unlocked doors, trusting your neighbor and society? Ripe for the pillaging and rape. Like pirates and the vikings there always has to be rape with the pillaging. Or world war 2 in our, civilized society. Kind of glad they didn't include that option in it actually.
Famine, genocide, assinations, and every dark thing in the world we live in today. Just take over a city. History of mankind is really fucked up for the most of it. Look forward to this DLC. A present waiting for me on my return.

Canada's Friendliness bonus extends to auto-locked doors Canada is the only Civilization in the game that cannot have surprise wars declared on them this is particularly beneficial when facing Persia, as their bonuses make them more powerful for the first 10 turns after declaring a surprise war so simply by being friendly, Canada cripples the main weapon of one of the most powerful Domination civs in the game
Similar to the US, Canada's later game bonuses are geared towards tourism -- set up a bunch of Hockey Rinks and get people visiting for the greatest sport in the world

the other bonus is in a generation of Diplomatic Favour, which acts as a new separate trade 'currency' and tool for influencing the world congress so Canada plays all nice to stockpile friendliness points, then uses those to convince other civilizations to fight wars on our behalf :notbad:
generally speaking, my preference is for Civs that have earlier game bonuses tho one of the things that makes Civ 6 fun is the different cultural landscapes that take shape as unique improvements/districts get spammed Canada benefits from being able to put hockey rinks on Tundra, but Russia gets a unique Religious district and benefits from Tundra squares
so likely going to go back to playing as other civs and naming my main city Canadaville after my Canada playthrough
Do hope there is a unique achievement for winning a Domination game as Canada simply called "Sorry" but we will see if Firaxis decided to be fun again or not

Never had a complaint about that developer. EA and Bethesda and Ubisoft, yeah.
Have over 700 hours on that game but always open to learning. Not meaning to put Canadians down, Seth Rogen is amazing. Just live and let live is what I get from the culture.
In Civ world, would be interesting to see if one could win playing Canada. I love learning about different cultures and you seem deeply invested in Canada. No judgement, just reading and learning.
Putting off playing it till my vacation ends and it comes out. Like I wrote before bought it and will be a present to me upon returning.
By the way I love your avatar. That moment when the water bong hits oneself and one is quickly transported to a different consciousness in life. I can't play games when fucked up. Always have to turn to that of least effort. And my attention span is limited, lol.

no worries, mostly it is just me not knowing anything else
have been down to Arizona, and used to do a number of shopping trips into North Dakota due to growing up on the Canada/US border but aside from that, am 30 years old and all my travelling has been within my home country if having been born in Europe, would likely have seen all sorts of different societies and cultures, just going by physical distance covered over time from bumming around
instead have to draw inspiration from the similarities and variations across the Canadian provinces would love to be more worldly and informed on other cultures and visit other countries, but not really in financial position to do so

Thanks
personally try to smoke frequently enough to not really get transported have a hard time dealing with being really high, but just kind of casually stoned all the time works wonders and gets me more mobile for chores and the like (have been on medical for years for pain treatment) Civ has just the right pacing to smoke once or twice while planning out my moves for a turn

This week's leader announcement is a bit different
Eleanor of Aquitaine as a leader is an option available for both France and England
France's current leader (Catherine) is a bit lackluster for me due to specializing in espionage but Eleanor has city-flipping bonuses that make her play more like Culture victories in Civ 4 my favourite way to play Civ 4 was to make big booming cultural cities and flip my neighbouring civs to my side through cultural pressure was discouraged when Civ 5 took that out, even if the expansions eventually readded it as a late-game feature this is the closest approximation available in Civ 6 tho -- so may be looking at my new main leader
take over the world by being pretty and classy

Yeah, I get it. It is strategy. One can do it on games like Civ. One plays shooters or such or certain horror games and when one looks up for a second one is dead. They have their place for gamers but it is like, what the fuck just happened?
So Going to wait to play again. God, I have epic binges on this game but going to wait and enjoy my vacation. There is a reason they now put a clock in the upper part of the game of real time. Because because 20 minutes goes by in an hour. When at work it is the other way around, why my brother said he doesn't play games so much because of how much he works and it is get home and play, flys past, and back to drudgery. It is actually around 850 hours looking at it. I don't know if it is a good bad thing or a good thing for it to take account of ones time on a game. So many want to say, it is wasting your time/life. Blah, fuck them.
When I get back I can put in a good 40 hour type work week on it, lol while my body recupperiacts from a week excuse to go to warm weather in a liberal city. Not going to go there and play games. Each their own, just having that antsy feeling before a trip.
Enjoy it! If you do buy the new DLC, give me some hints if you choose. I already bought it so I don't blow it at bars or with drugs. Life is good.

Fuck it, it is like a drug, going to play it. To a larger point I like strategy over fast pace shooters. Each have their place yet sometimes, as a perfectionist to a fault, I like a brake in the action and think things out before making a move. Thing is, I play for 4-5 hours at a time.
I have a PS4 and computer gaming laptop. Strange the difference yet I will buy Res 2 as well. I guess it is why I come on the shroomery. When you are on different drugs and/or alcohol consistently it goes into everything in life. Games are just a metaphor to life, what the fuck am I even trying to say. Drugs fit the game, like life.

Am in the midst of a second Civ 6 game as China now my first game with the expansion as Canada ended pretty early with a 1500s Religious victory this one is pushing into the late game, and am working on the new final step for the Space victory
the systems are more robust and interesting than my previous credit given to them climate change is only starting to set in in the 1700s-1800s but have some complaints regarding the AI maybe being too cautious on climate change before even having factories and power plants, the game was crediting me as creating all the CO2 due to being the only civ chopping trees which suggests to me that AI (even tho one of them is tagged with Exploitative) is hesitant to chop trees and rainforest which slows down their gameplay in the process
the new improvements and disasters are neat but some of the wonders are a little questionable in their building my empire currently has a long narrow inner sea in the middle of it but since it is not enough hexes wide near my cities, it is not possible to build Golden Gate Bridge and there are no smaller bridge districts like there are with canals but then in contrast, the game let me build the Panama canal in the middle of nowhere, connecting a land-locked city to the inner sea
unit management was a bit of an initial headache; went over my Oil cap spamming tanks like previously then had to delete a bunch to get back into my oil per turn limit so it mitigates some of the endless spam of units (like my love of Scythia and endless double helicopters) and means standing armies have to have more generic units tho it is mildly frustrating mechanized Infantry obsoletes regular infantry, meaning only AT crews can serve as mass troops in late game
still working on building the giant death robot, may not manage to get it popped out before my Space Victory unless someone's spies do a good job sabotaging my space district
also, as a frustrating aside China unlocks canals as early as Masonry tech but due to playing on a huge map, none of my bodies of water could be connected with canals for the whole game anyway

Just got back from vacation and downloaded the Gathering Storm. I preordered it as something to look forward to come back home to and play, and seriously, not to party it away. When I have money, I spend it.
It looks like they put some effort into which they should for 40 U.S. I like how they have global warming and environmental aspects to it. As well as war and such.
The new leaders, I know history but seriously, I haven't heard of any of them so my scope of time and place is limited.
On to the game. Will probably be up all night playing it and I hope it is as good as it has started. Haven't read the reviews on it but looks good. Strange not using the internet for a week and seeing all the e-mail and boards after 7 days. I feel so energized. Enjoy the game Shroomery! Still sticking with Teddy.

Teddy did not get changed, so he is still an all-around solid choice am a little discouraged by England's change -- but mostly just wanted the OP bonus to culture districts to play as Eleanor and flip cities but likely to stick with running her on the France civ
my China game wrapped up -- Space victory has been changed so that after launching the last piece there is a 50ish(reducible) turn period before victory actually kicks in similar to the launching and waiting of previous titles
playing around with mountain tunnels in late game as China convinced me to give Inca a test run with their earlier tunnels so making a mountain empire now

April update is coming to the game
makes climate it change hit harder later in the game, changes some of the storms around, changes civilization bonuses and buffs some + wonders and stuff
Canada may -finally- replace my preference for Russia in playing Tundra tiles, since now both civs get production, but Russia gets more Faith and Canada gets more Food

Thank God for the change in climate shift and the numbers. Really fucks up when settling a place and when building a wonder and it gets washed out. If one thing Peter doesn't need is more faith. He beat me once when I put a hell of a lot of time in it converting all my cities.
Beware people. Religion in this game and keeping it, is a good thing.
Glad to hear of the updates though. Been detoxing a bit.

Just for clarification, Russia has not been modified to add more Faith than currently just that the Russian bonus provides 1 Production and 1 Faith to all Tundra hexes this is still arguably better than updated Canada for me -- the video said Canada now gets 1 production on all Tundra tiles, but the correct change was simply that they get an additional 1 production bonus to all strategic resources in Tundra or Snow
one of my preferences for playing as Russia is they get a unique Religious district not only is it cheaper to build, making it easier to get one of the first religions in the game but it also provides bonus points for earning great writers and artists before having to build Theatre squares to get them
religions do have really powerful bonuses even for not religious games tho production bonus for each follower and the Protestant Meeting House in every religious district can provide crazy bonuses
my dislike about Peter is that his leader bonus is entirely dependent upon trading with other civs, and specifically other civs that are more advanced than you it is a big help at Deity level where AI civs spend much of the game more scientifically and culturally advanced but my preference is to play the majority of games down around Prince or King like a noob so the AI doesn't get cheat bonuses and at that level, Catherine the Great as a modded Russian leader provides a better leader bonus

Good to know. Seems like you have put a lot of time into Russian meddeling, stupid joke I know. King level is fine by me and it is not "cheats". The programmers just know what one is doing and makes it harder of course.
Canada actually won a game I was playing, Science of course. Get so tired of that. With the other civs the Moon and now it is supposed to space it out to have Mars and all that other shit and to boost your rockets there. It is like the only way to win and send spies to ruin spaceports.
Really, would all civilization give up to one that started a colony on Mars or in past Civs, the Moon? Blah.

Technically, King is the first difficulty level where the game starts to "cheat" because they never got good at programming the AI to work with all the nuanced bonuses in the game the difficulty levels instead pertain to modifiers that make the AI better than the player at everything they do

King is not so bad, due to other civs only starting with one Settler still the bonus from being able to get extra cities up and producing really serves to slingshot them ahead at higher levels tho
that is where my wish to be able to play a civ game with a bunch of thinking humans comes in, but to somehow do it at the timescale of an ai game
at least you can go back to turning Science off if it has not been stretched far enough yet but really it is supposed to represent that your civilization just up and moves off of earth into deep space so the "winner" is the first one off the planet everyone has destroyed
similarly, religious victory does not make a lot of sense converting someone else to your religion, even if they are in the process of sieging down and taking your capital, would not just suddenly end the war it just "represents" that even if your civilization dies, the legacy of the religion you started goes on forever it is kind of like the cultural victory, where it is basically just becoming too important for history to be able to forget
all pretty arbitrary compared to the clear conditions of Domination, or even Diplomatic tho gaining Diplomatic Victory Points still frequently comes down to a human vs ai affair of stacking personal votes rather than diplomatically convincing everyone else to elect you world leader
but, honestly, do not play many pure domination games anymore like to do thangs that make use of Teddy's bonuses, despite only playing as him a few times use his bonus to combat on home continent to take over a land mass to myself through early wars, then use the massive empire to out tech/out culture/out religion everyone else sticking to Democracy or Digital Democracy also means building up a ton of Diplomatic points from the Founding Fathers bonus
typically my best/most overwhelming victories stem from me having 3-4 civs worth of land for my empire
but, really, my enjoyment of the game is just having enough sprawling expanse to make the landscape look all pretty with wonders and districts
the Total War series (with ancient China as the next game focus coming out next month) is basically all about playing for domination in its 4x mechanics so like to try different things with civ

Well you have studied it a lot more than I have, with respect. Have found with the Diplomatic victory everytime on King level when one hits 8 then everyone turns against one and votes against one to lose a diplomatic point, no matter how much one has saved up and used.
I always play huge like I think I mentioned. Domination victories, no. Would play the largest one but have realized through the years that is one thing Civ doesn't change, no matter how fast one's computer is. The lag gets so annoying.
Anyway, thanks for the info.

Nope. If Austrialia and Indonesia ever become a world power great. Hard enough playing Canada. It felt idiotic to me.

Can agree coastal cities still feel gimped even after updates to the emission rates it feels like tiles start getting washed away a good 50+ turns before they "should" be and the late game is almost always me rushing to Computer tech and putting flood barriers up around everything
yet they are still crazy important (or at least having harbors on a slightly more inland city) due to the powerful benefits of intercontinental trade
can respect that there are places in the real world (like Singapore) where flood barriers are keeping parts of the city dry where they are below the water line now but the gameplay adaption of that makes it feel like every major nation in the world should be diverting all their attention into putting a wall along the coast
Australia and Indonesia are kind of ridiculously overpowered due to being DLC civs -- Firaxis has a tendency to do that Australia benefits from both coastal cities and being able to work desert tiles with their unique improvement Indonesia synergizes really well with my playstyle of Religion early then swap to different focus by medieval era -- Gitarja as a leader allows me to generate extra faith and spend that faith on military later in the game without having to do the culture techs and policies for it
my most recent playthrough was a culture-focus as Eleanor for France made best friends with the Inca and Mapuche early on; then basically just absorbed them through culture rather than war by the end game not as fulfilling as Civ 4 cultural absorption tho -- Eleanor's loyalty bonuses from Great Works is powerful, but it is not satisfying the way just building up a cultural powerhouse that absorbs everything around it used to be QQ
my next planned playthrough is Aztecs on a military campaign -- have taken to doing some achievement chasing right now and Aztecs have one specifically for attacking an enemy while already controlling every luxury resource on the map
also, as an aside, the Scenario that came with the Australia DLC is actually kind of a fun change from the standard game find colonizing Australia and taking land from the Aboriginals to be more interesting than their prospect of a battle royale mode
in a similar way, it is kind of nice that the set up game options allow going back to earlier rulesets and playing without climate change but part of me is itching to pick up the Steam version of Civ 4 next time it goes on a ridiculous sale and get back into playing that

Thanks for the post. Learned a bit from it. Glad you took pleasure in taking over the Aboriginals which seems like a interesting scenario. Would like to play them instead you racist bastard!
With America it would be great if they had Native Americans before Europe settled here. I know they have Poundmaker and the computer A.I. beat me once with him. Maybe they could have if it wasn't for the diseases that plagued them in real life. Plus the tribes, God I went to a U whose mascot is the Utes, got together to fight against all the shitty things the U.S. did to them.
With the Aussies, criminals sent there from England of course, it is similar in many ways. Life and history is amusing to me.
Playing on King level it floods fast, really fast. So yeah build flood barriers like they are doing in New York and such and there will be no small island countries. After the last hurricane and that devastation, and seeing a documentary about all these island communities from rising sea levels showing how much of their island is gone to the sea. This is where this guys house was. Well yeah, it's called science. Short tangent.
Going back to earlier games feels like listening to older music to me. Good memories but that time is gone. Everything used to seem so simple in life. Blah, whatever. As humanity we all go through it together. And it isn't like that is a good/bad/grey thing, it's life.
Turn a Civ thread into something else but I love history and why I love the Civ games. Has been a nice distraction and entertainment throughout most of my life. First game I played was pong on the light brown console against my brother and that was amazing to me. Lol.
Will be interesting in 2 to 3 years what the next Civ will be.

So starting next week, and continuing on every 2 months for the next year they are planning to add 8 more civs, some new game modes, new tile improvements to make etc.

*New game mode requires the Gathering Storm expansion to play.
**New game mode requires either the Rise and Fall or Gathering Storm expansions to play.
***New leader requires Rise and Fall expansion to play.
Game modes can include additional content such as new units, buildings, or improvements and can be turned on or off during game setup to apply significant and dramatic changes to the rules of the game. Exclusive bonus: Teddy Roosevelt and Catherine De Medici Persona Packs
Two of Civilization VI's leaders are transformed with a new look and new abilities when you lead America and France! “Rough Rider Teddy” excels at keeping the peace on his home continent, and “Magnificence Catherine” can use Luxuries to overwhelm the world with Culture and Tourism. Each Persona Pack contains a brand new take on a favorite leader, with a new leader model and background, new gameplay bonuses, and an updated agenda that reflect the changes to the leader’s personality. The Persona Packs are available exclusively to owners of the New Frontier Pass and will be delivered with the second add-on pack.

am definitely glad they are still working on content for the title but really not so sure about paying for another season pass for the same game but suppose that really drives home the "season" of the pass -_-

Yeah. Watched the video and looking forward to the 22nd. As well as all the additions and updates coming up month by month with the Frontier Pass. Should be interesting. I own all of it might as well get this one plus tired of Montezuma. Think I am at the 1,200 hour point now on Steam. Love how they keep track of it.

am certainly planning to pick it up, tho not sure if/when the Maya will get a playthrough from me interested to see the video for Gran Columbia that should be due out Tuesday am not particularly good at playing tall -- am all for aggressive Classical Era expansionism
it is nice that they are adding in more wonders, districts, and everything throughout the year as well tho so it's not just new civs on the map, there are new things to explore for and to change around my build orders won't be as game-changing as the natural disasters, but sort of refreshens the gameplay a number of years after release

Gran Colombia seems crazy powerful
extra movement across the board + free Great Generals each era shift works quite well for my playstyle and their unique improvement seems like the Australian one, but with more bonus and less potential tile types to place it on

And the release is upon us! Would be cool if they made Columbia have future techs like cartel leaders and cocaine as a commodity. But alas Civ has become Disneyfied. Still play it and will buy it, but is like school and the University. History is all whitewashed.
Here goes half my day. Made me laugh for those who are still working. One wrote on Steam, "And I made the mistake of getting on Civ..". Time flies and I get why they put a digital clock on it now. That made me laugh. Time to explore the new DLC.

Yeah, was also really hoping cocaine would be added as a resource upon seeing they added stuff like Maize and Honey resources suppose there will at least be mods for that
the bonuses for Gran Colombia really are crazy powerful tho; conquered Spain and Hungary in the early game and already turning eyes towards Sweden

That they did, it is addictive. As far as the Frontier Pass. Mixed reviews so waiting a bit on it. Lot of bugs. Read the Steam reviews.

the Epic Games move was a good one -- realistically the money the company makes off the game at this point is from the add-ons and stuff so give the base for free and let people buy the upgrades, makes even more sense in timing with the second season pass
My Gran Colombia game has not progressed further than my last post been distracted by other things but have encountered at least one bug, tho only graphical in nature after shutting down the game after my first run, my Haciendas no longer link their fences with the fences of the plantations like they are supposed to but they still give the gameplay bonuses, so more a nuisance than anything really troubling
am guessing the planned schedule is going to be content one month, bug fixes the next month, content, bug fixes, and so forth
tho will say, am glad that the New Frontier Pass is just a regular season pass had been worried that it was going to be the only way to get the new content, but Maya and Gran Colombia are available as an individual content pack so it seems to be just the personalities for Teddy and Catherine are the actual pass-exclusive things
'course, Mom also got me the pass along with my birthday books, so going to be having all of it anyway

Japan loves me every game prolly due to always chasing a religion at the start and typically having more faith and culture income than the size of my puny military handful of highly advanced units works better to deter AI invasion since they calculate viability of attack off of military point scores and often they will have a bunch of low level units running around in their empire taking up space and not contributing much score
Japan is pretty awesome to play as, as well because the bonuses to districts and district building speed help getting set up quick
really enjoy the new Meteor Shower disaster but feel like it might be tuned for a bit too frequent rate of occurrence in normal games tough call, as it balances well enough by making stepping on the hex they landed on grant a free military unit

"a sweet scent filled the air"

Also, the new Bermuda Triangle Natural Wonder is kind of fun to find in game sailing into it randomly teleports the unit across the map and gives +1 move speed

Wow. They just released Ethiopia. Never used to thinking of that country as a world power. Always had the image of starving black children with commercials asking for money.
Would be amusing if Ethiopia over time was a world power. History when objective one can learn a lot about life now.
Could put a lot of quotes in but don't feel like it. Civ has enough of them.
