Pundit O'Reilly Now Skeptical About Bush
AP Bill O'Reilly at a Fox News Channel studio in New York. WASHINGTON (Feb. 10) - Conservative television news anchor Bill O'Reilly said on Tuesday he was now skeptical about the Bush administration and apologized to viewers for supporting prewar claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
The anchor of his own show on Fox News said he was sorry he gave the U.S. government the benefit of the doubt that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's weapons program poised an imminent threat, the main reason cited for going to war.
"I was wrong. I am not pleased about it at all and I think all Americans should be concerned about this," O'Reilly said in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America."
"What do you want me to do, go over and kiss the camera?" asked O'Reilly, who had promised rival ABC last year he would publicly apologize if weapons were not found.
O'Reilly said he was "much more skeptical about the Bush administration now" since former weapons inspector David Kay said he did not think Saddam had any weapons of mass destruction.
Talk About It ? Message Board | Chat While critical of President Bush, O'Reilly said he did not think the president intentionally lied. Rather, O'Reilly blamed CIA Director George Tenet, who was appointed by former President Bill Clinton.
"I don't know why Tenet still has his job."
He added: "I think every American should be very concerned for themselves that our intelligence is not as good as it should be."
O'Reilly anticipated the presidential election would be a close race, adding he thought Democratic front-runner Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts would be a formidable opponent against Bush.
"It will be a very close race. The nation is divided," he said.

from your last link:
Peggy Noonan, a speechwriter for former President Ronald Reagan and for Bush's father and an outspoken conservative commentator, said: "The president seemed tired, unsure and often bumbling. His answers were repetitive, and when he tried to clarify them he tended to make them worse. He seemed in some way disconnected from the event."
hit the nail on the head...

it wasnt that bad. Those who jumped Deans ship had options. The republicans dont have another candidate they can choose to vote for...And they're just like democrats in that they'd rather see Stalin president than vote for someone inthe other party.

Well ya, the hard-line Republicans are like that, but the swing voters(as well as voter turnout) are what determines the outcome of an election.

i think, and this is opinion only, with no basis in actual fact, that the "swing" vote is much more helpful to the democrats than the republicans. I think the majority of those who vote republican are older more traditional voters who have a vested interest, either financially or whatever in the election. These people usually, i think, decide to vote well in the future.
I think the swing vote is generally lower-class americans or the young who may only be voting for the first time and may only have a strong conviction to vote at that particular time.
only conjecture.

Actually I read a poll somewhere that Bush's support is stronger among young Republicans than older ones.
Most of the older (60+) Republicans I know personally were enthusiastic about Bush for a long time but lost that enthusiasm pretty quickly over the last few months. I think anybody who lived through the Vietnam era has a sickening feeling in the pit of his stomach right about now. People reach a point when seeing folks forty years younger than you coming home in body bags just doesn't seem worth it unless it's for a damn good reason.
Younger Republicans still seem firmly behind him though.
