Darker brown "wet" spots on caps
    #2321117 - 02/10/04 12:34 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

So I read through alot of older posts without finding out what I need to know.

Some of my developing mushrooms have smaller darker spots on them, mostly where a bit of verm, has stuck to the cap from growing out the bottom of a double end casing. Supposedly this is from too much direct moisture on the cap. Now I never spray my set up at all since the humidity stays high enough only using perlite on the bottom. So now, is it safe to eat these mushrooms??? And how can I prevent this from happening on my cakes that are just now starting to pin???? Thanks guys.

it's fine to eat them, try fanning more often to remove moisture.

There is also something called bacterial blotch that sounds a bit like your description. I think that's what's in this pic, but not really sure.

Too much humidity is supposed to be the culprit. I usually cut away these areas, but I have also eaten them as is without dying or otherwise spazzing out.

You might want to do a little research on this. I'm too lazy.

Naw it doesn't look like the pictures i've seen of Bacterial Blotch, it's not greenish/blueish colored at all, just a more moist looking brown. I just wanted to make sure they were safe to eat.

That happens to me often on second or greater flushes. I've eaten them and I am not dead.
