Feeding Dogs
    #2309967 - 02/06/04 07:59 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

My roommates and I agreed to watch a friend's pit bull while he enlisted in the army. I have heard of people cooking for their dogs instead of giving them dry food. What kinds of people food do you give them? Is there a special treat you like to make?

You should just keep feeding the dog whatever your friend did.

You're best off feeding him/her regular dog food for 1 real good reason, its cheaper than making a steak when the pup is hungry.  Not too mention dogs usually and almost always get the shits from something foreign to there diet.

It's best to keep puppers on a 1 food diet for his sake and your carpets.

Also, feeding your pup people food only leads to super annoying begging at the dinner table.

Maybe I need to re-word this. I am going to feed him the same food. I want to know what treats will be healthy for him such as carrots. Is there anything that your dog loves that you only give once in a while? Are eggs "good for his coat?" Things along these lines.

I give my doggie these

My dog freakin loves greenies, but I also keep a box of milk bones handy. You can get a huge box for like $5.00.

eggs are real good for his coat... I have a pit bull/ lab mix, I make him an omelette every other day, eggs, cheese, fresh garlic to keep the bugs down... he starts to get excited as i chop the garlic... milk bones are the only "dog" treats he likes... he really loves baked ziti too...

When I go shopping for my dog's food, I like to sample the treats/nuggets myself. If they taste good to me, then that's what I buy for my dog.

Iam's Lamb and Rice is the best.

He gets Iams right now. I have seen those "greenie" bones at petco and wondered about them. I think I'll pick up a few. Thanks everyone!

So I go to Petco and all the greenies were gone!  I looked by the register and found the only 2 in the store.  Bruno wolfed that bitch DOWN!

Nah.

I really try to take the best care of my dog's food as possible.  It sucks to be a dog and have to eat the same damn food everyday so I want it to be as good as it can be.

She loves the lamb and rice as much as I did, and when my dog is happy, I'M happy.

I give my dog these. They're chopped cow femurs. You can find them in the meat department of your grocery store.

those are just marrow bones right? They're also good for making stock. If you can get your hands on some veal marrow bones, roast them in the oven, scoop them out on toasted slices of good french bread(or anything artisinal), sprinkle a little fleur de sel, BUTTER OF THE GODS!

As for feeding dogs, if you keep on feeding dogs good people food, eventually they won't eat the dry mix that comes in the 50lb bag anymore, right?
