Does this look like gymnopilus junonius mycelium?
    #23138106 - 04/20/16 06:16 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

I'm trying to get a culture from a print, but I'm not positive if this is Junonius mycelium or just a contaminant.  I've seen pictures online, but gym myc looks very fluffy, and mine looks thin, although it may be because the agar is a little old

I can't be certain based solely from those photos, but some of my Gym myc was quite wispy. I've had it growing both very daintily and aggressively.

Well it hasn't been overcome by the other contams (is that trich?).  and it looks kind of like myc.  I haven't encountered too many contaminants besides the spore-y black mold and the green (in the pictures) so I can't be certain.

I'm about to transfer it and hopefully have better pictures soon.  I haven't used a still air box in ages and I don't have any tyvek sleeves so I'm going to wear a long-sleeved shirt and spray the arms with lysol.  Hopefully that'll work.

I'm thinking this looks like fluffly gymnopilus myc.  Do you guys agree?

Honestly looks like cobweb mold to me, but it is in its early growing stages and kinda hard to tell with the quality of the photo. I've also never worked with that species so I personally don't know the mycelium growing patterns and probably shouldn't be giving my input..I'd say give it a couple days and ask again with updated pics.

This is them yesterday, so three days after the last picture.  Wouldn't cobweb mold have started sporulating by now?

Cobweb grows ridiculously fast but folks who see wispy mycelium seem to think they have cobweb. I reckon that about 25% of the people who think they have cobweb actually do have it.

I have never heard of that species, is it an edible species or an active one? If it's an edible/medicinal species you are better off asking in the gourmet and medicinal forum.

It's a wild active mushroom. This seems to be going really slow, although I don't have much of a basis of comparison, other than reishi. Im not sure if it was my agar mix or just normal.

There are plenty of wispy species when compared to cubensis' rhizo growth so it might just be normal. If in doubt, let it grow to see if it sporulates and if you are still not sure, try cutting the plate in multiple spots. Trich will not sporulate until you physically damage it sometimes in petri dishes.

It's been over 9 days since I transferred the (maybe) mycelium to other dishes.

Some of the dishes look like they've just stagnated or nothing really grew.  Others have white, fluffy (maybe) mycelium.  Here are some more pictures.  Depending on what you guy's think, I may transfer them to grain sometime this week.

Bad plate and good plate:
