Yes, that's why I'm awfully surprised you said that. Don't worry, I'm sure more experienced growers will chime in...

And you grow beautiful mushrooms. But you are refusing to accept new improved information. Get with the times man, all those beautiful mushrooms would have been even better if you used a dehydrator, instead.

what does that mean i have been doing this way long
This is a daily discussion, kinda getting annoyed of it. Mycelium has enzymes to help degrade the substrate it's colonizing. This is a fact. Since mushrooms are made of mycelium, their enzymes degrade the mushrooms themselves if left too long. You can see it turn to mush if left in a wet environment for a long time. Those enzymes are in fact degrading the actives as well as the fruit body. Heat denatures said enzymes. That alongside the fact a dehydrator takes out almost all the water molecules in 12 hours makes it the best at retaining potency.
Now, the fact of the matter is, it's retardedly hard to lose all the potency in a mushroom. Once cracker dry it takes months of open air exposure to oxidize. The amount of actives lost when using a fan drying method PROPERLY (able to dry in 24-48 hours) will most likely be unnoticeable. I too did fan and oven drying for the longest time, but I got sick of always moving mushrooms around from racks to oven to chambers. Dehydrator really made that part super easy.
tl;dr dehydrator will retain the most potency, but the amount it retains will most likely be unnoticeable through eating alone.

Or

Also yeah you can. I can stuff a pound into 1 dehydrator, and in 12 hours it's dry. With 3 dehydrators that's 6 pounds in 24 hours.
The DIY dehydrators can probably do 10 pounds.

UPDATEThis Is for people who want to air dry or are new and need a simple way to dry. Without spending extra money, if you want to use a dehydrator. Use it. But go to A dehydrator forum. don't ruin this for all the new growers who are looking Something similar. Thank you -MH

Trip, much respect. You deserve it. But quicker dry times are optimal for retaining potency. I also find that with any fruit that has some density, I need to use heat or it doesn't fully dry with a fan / desiccant chamber. If I grow a 50g+ mushroom, It will degrade to shit by the time it's dry unless I use some heat.

Regardless of what you say, a fan will only dry to the same environmental rh, which in florida spells disaster for anyone trying to store for longer than a month. Either use heat or a properly dried desiccant to finish the rest. I did 24 hr fan dry > oven on low heat for 1 hr.

exactly. So many ways to skin a cat, but heat and moving air really seems to get it done the quickest.

Ppl knock the Excalibur but it's capacity and speed is insane. You can stack enough wet boomers on the bottom rack to get a dry pound + in under 18hrs all day everyday without crushing any of them. They may stick together but pull apart pretty easily. But the way you are doing it still produces some pretty potent product. So if you're happy with the results then chug along bro...

I got no idea what I have because i got it for free online.
What I do know is that it has at least 7 trays, and each tray can fit 2-3 ounces. Stuffed in hard, and stuck together like PPP said lol
