Is there such a thing as shaking a grain jar too hard?

I shook my grains about 3 days ago and the recovery is going rough! I'm just curious if there is such a thing, or if I'm just being impatient. That was for my cubes. My oysters seems to have recovered quickly, but I'm worried about possible bacterial growth. Can anybody confirm for me if oyster mycelium is rather fuzzy instead of ropey. All jars were made from clean agar plates, now I'm just hopin my grain prep was spot on. I loaded the jars with the grains not fully cooled and that resulted in steam building up on the glass, which I'm sure turned into moisture later on. Thanks for your input everybody.

Just don't shake them hard two at a time, last I did that I hit one with the other and covered the floor with oyster spawn.

Was your oyster myc. Fluffy. Like way different looking than cubes. I mean mine is white, not off white, but just kind of has a cottony look too it if that makes sense. Just trying to make sure it isn't bacterial.

Yes, it's much more cottony than my cube mycelium. It will fill a petri dish completely if you let it grow out that long.

If that jar didn't recover nicely in 48hours, it's highly suspect, OP. It was't the shaking that did it either.

It's not that it's not recovering...its just moving slow. I've always read people's post about how their myc "takes off" after a shake. This is true for my oyster jars...but the cubes are going at a MUCH slower rate

As long as jar dont break, no. If its really hard to break up likely bacteria. Might still be viable for an.outdoor grow though in my experience.

The top 2 are the oysters
The last pic is the cubes
It's as good of pics I can get...I know, they suck
All jars shaken about 45 hours ago. All the cubes agar plates had nice rhizo growth, and the grains were rinsed about 6 times, soaked for about 18 hours in water and liquid coffee, drained, rinsed, boiled for about 10 minutes, loaded into jars, and PC at 15 psi for 90 minutes. Cooled for 24 hours, prepped SAB with warm soapy water, rubbed my gloves and arms with alcohol, wore face mask, and transferred agar to grains via tiger drop

We don't! Nice catch. I toss them in simmering water and turn off the heat, and put the lid for a few minutes. If you boil WBS it's bound to get sticky and gummy. But you can also cold soak 'em like the chef said.

He didn't use a soak so they wouldn't burst too much. With thin hulled grains you have to be careful not to get a rolling boil, just a light boil will be enough.
