Pluteus have pink spore prints.

Sorry about the crappy photo but it's definitely pink.

Anyone know about Claviceps purpurea in New Zealand?

That photo is fine and the spore print colour is correct.

@Matai nice photos. Most of my flash photos suck. The last one Coprinellus sp. they look amazing when you find them in large groups.

Found a stinkhorn I think/

Found this large completely white mushroom, the photo does it no justice, it was one of the most beautiful mushrooms i've seen.

Been lurking for about a week and started taking a few snaps with potato phone camera from around Dunedin.

Habitat of about 3-5 different wee fellas (only 2 in shot)

Sports field find

Found around same spot as first picture, looks similar to another image on thread.

From urban park.

Grave find.

Open field, meters from path.

On bush track.

Cones!

Huge and had an odor.

Strange velvet like things.

In yard under birch trees.

Told by fellow forager ones on right are Boletus.

Indicators!?

Anyone got any idea what this is? They're growing everywhere out of rotting wood in Dunedin.

It's Gymnopilus junonius, it's not active.

It's not active in NZ, in other countries it can supposedly be active and more study needs to be done, there could be more than one species in question that look very similar in macroscopic form.

Here are the other pictures, how come the same species can be active in other countries but not NZ?

It's a mystery, maybe there is more than one species in question, possibly two that look very similar but are actually different, as I said, more study needs to be done.

Ok inski, thank you very much.
So my Gymnopilus junonius are definitely inactive?

What species of Gymnopilus in NZ are active?

I found a very rare NZ-specific Amanita sp. yesterday, referred to as Noddy's flycap. You can read about it here. I was only out for a walk, so didn't have a proper camera sorry. I wish I could capture how it smelled -- like a mix of garbage water and rotting fish.

Please enjoy this weird and wonderful mushroom, you myco nerds :hippie:

I also have images of this interesting fungus and I likened the smell to vomit:cool:

I believe this species may fit into the newly published genus Saproamanita.

Thanks guys, quite pleased with this one. I can understand why you'd go with vomit as a choice  Very interesting to hear about the genus, do you intend to publish anything on it yourself?
