WBS as bulk substrate?
    #2317585 - 02/09/04 11:41 AM (20 years, 1 month ago)

If you had some jars of colonized grain for spawn couldn't you prep some more WBS in the same matter as for jars, but pastuerize it, instead of sterilizing, then spawn the colonized jars to it?

Nope. You have to sterilize grain. I don't know the technical reasons why, but I'm sure someone will post them.

Could you sterilize the grains then pasteurize them, and use them for the same purpose?

No because as soon as they are exsposed to contams which are everywhere it would be contaminated plus when you pasturize you have benifical bacteria that helps ward off contams when you sterilize it kills everything so pasturization would be useless

You could just use all your colonized jars in a casing.

WBS/Grain is used as a spawn to innoculate a larger, less contam-prone mass like dung.

You need to sterilize grain all all times. Once it is exposed to outside air, it could contaminate very quickly.

Why does the Corncob Mycelium Slurry work then?:

http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/7941

Just because corncob is more contaminate resistant?
