Your second picture has the exact same colouring as those tree moths out in the bush man, that's amazing... Touche capturing that one. Funny how one simple mushroom can be so complex in so many ways. They are my new love. I have taught myself edible plants of the NZ bush, I am learning about Rongoa Maori currently (medicinal plants), I have lots of knowledge on growing marijuana (first passion) but now I have discovered the beauty of fungi and the rest of the plants have nothing on the mushrooms. Sorry just wanted to add the love hahahaha.

That's really cool -- maybe something from Austroboletus? Did you notice what trees were growing around it?
No, I could go back and check though. Good suggestion, does this look pretty close you reckon?
Looks pretty close to me and also it looks like the mushroom might be growing under/around some mÄnuka?

It's Austroboletus niveus or possibly more correctly Fistulinella nivea.

Neato, thanks for the ID inski. Do you have any idea what mushroom number 7 from this post is? It's pretty amazing to look at.

Looks very similar if not exactly the same. I do want to say how likely is such a pattern on another specie of fungi, but then you got that one to begin with lol... Looks beautiful.. I come across so much Amanitas half munched and rooted up, would that be pigs doing it?

That's super cool, good sleuthing. Those things have beautiful caps, I'd love to find one in the wild. I wish I had more time in my weekdays to hunt for mushrooms... sigh...

Oooh, so it's an undescribed species? Crazy. How does a species become described?

Weird bright blue fungus.
Dunedinite do you think we both found the same mushroom? the patterning is very similar.

Very possible it's the same species, considering we're both in the same town. The patterning is somewhat different between the two, although very similar, so I don't think it's the same individual mushroom!
1- Also found this one that has crazy patterning on it, although seemingly from a hard surface layer that's been stretched out and broken up.

2 - Found these interesting beasties growing on a log immediately next to that first one.
http://i.imgur.com/Ca93Er9.jpg http://i.imgur.com/RLFGK9i.jpg
3 - Some rather large Mycena sp., I forget what particular species, but it's one that has gross slimy stems.
http://i.imgur.com/bcEfIfR.jpg
4 - I walk past this fella every time I walk to uni, very spectacular looking! Thought it was a mouse when I first saw it, since it's so fluffy.
http://i.imgur.com/yFxCeFj.jpg http://i.imgur.com/6C5bSLj.jpg
5 - No idea what these could be, but they're growing out of an old trunk and are slowly getting bigger.

Thanks I just happened to be looking for something else when I saw that. I've been getting out early and it's much better light for photography too.

Better quality pics would help for sure chips. Cool colour, does it look like a cup fungus?
@Dunedinite #5. I found some similar to this a couple of months ago. Xylaria sp. ?

#5 on both my posts could very well be Xylaria species, although different species in the same genus
I might take my camera out with me tomorrow and try capture a quality photo of it, rather than using my phone!

They are edible, Meadow Mushroom they are called. Here's a link to some info and pictures. They are exact in every way... But definitely wait for Inski or someone else to confirm..

Heh, I found a bunch of those growing quite happily on my street a week or so back, actually thought they were potential Agaricus bisporus (no one replied to my ID Request for confirmation, sadly). They all got run over by a car though before I went back to see if there was more... And the people pruning the trees around the powerlines the past couple of days probably didn't do them any favours with their trucks either...

Sorry about the crappy photo but it's definitely pink.
Anyone know about Claviceps purpurea in New Zealand?
