Air & Moisture Seal Sterilite Lids
    #23192507 - 05/05/16 02:26 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

So, I just noticed one of my sterilite tubs I bought has this fancy air and moisture lock seal on the top of it. I guess it's just rubber along the top. I know the imperfect sterilite lids provide some GE during tub colonization. Should I be worried or is it fine as is? Compensate by taking some tape off of holes? Remove the rubber seal?

Try stuffing the holes with poly during colonization.

You can stuff the polyfill right at spawning, I don't tape the holes anymore. Azur says that his tubs fruit faster that way. I don't have any isolates to test it out myself but he knows what he is doing so I don't have any reason to doubt it.

At any rate, I doubt the seal will be perfect and there should be plenty of air in the tub for full colonization. If it makes you feel better you can remove either the rubber or the tape.

What a great thread, thanks guys. Guess I'll try polyfil this time around. Excited, first time doing a mini. I've never really cased though, seems opinion varies on the strain too? Will be using KSSS

A casing is always beneficial for cubes. It will help you maintain a good microclimate and high RH at sub level. If by strain you mean cubensis varieties, that doesn't really matter. Every cubensis is more or less the same, there is only a very slight variation in their needs.

I personally would case a mutant strain like ksss, they always seem to suck water up like beasts.

Hey that's a good point! I have worked with them before and I wondered if I was dunking wrong at some point because of how the sub turned out in flushes.

Going to try colonizing with fruiting conditions after all, thanks again.
